We had the good fortune of connecting with Kris Marie Schnarr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kris Marie, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
People. Plain and simple, my clients and other stylists are the people that is the BIGGEST factor in making my business as successful as it is. In the beginning, my co-workers/previous salon owners and employees were the ones to help promote the niche I’m currently in (bridal, special event, and photography hair and makeup). Since then, I have made some great friends from the clients I took who promote and refer me to people they know.
In addition, within my industry, you have to make connections with people, because if you don’t, how do you expect to succeed in a client driven industry?
I am SO grateful and tell my people all the time how much they are appreciated. Especially the ones who have been with me from the very beginning of it all.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business focuses mainly on the Wedding and special event sector of the beauty industry. Now, what this entails is quite a lot. From knowing how photographers capture photos to a lot of “What-if” scenarios that happen on the day of someone’s event. As a business owner and stylist with this niche, you have to be ready to problem solve on the spot as well as have a lot of knowledge of different types of hair and skin/face shapes. Another big part of my business is working with High School Juniors & Seniors. I’ll go into that in a moment.
It took a lot of education in the field to become the hair and makeup artist I am today. But, one thing I’m SUPER excited about that I will be releasing around the time this article comes out, is a new type of Senior Rep Program for upcoming high school seniors! Everyone has heard of these programs for photographers, but to my knowledge, no one in the Hair and Makeup field has ever done anything like this. With this program, I’m utilizing the knowledge from photographers and input from previous seniors I’ve worked with to create this new type of senior rep program that is specifically for Hair and Makeup services.
I want the world to know that just because you see all the same social media type reels for your industry, doesn’t mean you can’t create something new. Take the senior rep program I’m building, it was only a thing in the photography industry, but now I’m modifying it into something new for the beauty industry. It’s different, new, and exciting to be creating something that no one has put into place!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, by far I’m taking her to my fav sushi spot in Alpharetta, Lilly’s Sushi Bar at The Maxwell. Then, we’d check out some of my fav people’s salons, Volume Hair & Lash Co. in the Hickory Flat area as well as Johanna Clark Hair in Brookhaven.
Another two of my favorite hang out spots is Avalon and Halcyon. Superica at Avalon is SO good for some tex-mex vibes (try the guac with special fried tortilla chips). Salata at Halcyon is also a go-to for a quick lunch with my friends.
Outside of that, you’ll find me up at Lake Lanier this summer, possibly at Pelican Pete’s for Lunch or dinner with my family.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give a couple people some recognition.
First, to my parents who have supported me in whatever dreams I desire to have, past, present and future dreams.
Second, I’m calling out my favorite client & friend from DAY 1 of this dream, Kim Perpetua. She has supported me in every way you could think. From being a client in the salon to promoting me to all the people she can, photographers included.
