Meet Keri Kel | Singer Songwriter

We had the good fortune of connecting with Keri Kel and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keri, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Originally paint was the chosen medium I used for expression, I even went to art college & uni and worked in the field. However, this felt false as I was hiding behind my paint brushes afraid of failure. I truly wanted to sing, write, perform music and pull silly faces onstage. Sadly the idea terrified me until I realised fear existed only in my head. But primarily because, if you have music in you then you have no choice other than to make music. It’s a compulsion, more than that it’s the only thing that makes any sense. If it’s in you, you have to get it out of you.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I like to think the songs speak for themselves.
I used to be so driven about chasing what I thought was success until I woke up and realised that true success is enjoying each day for what it is. It’s all about the little things in life.
I don’t write/record and perform music to be successful, if it helps others whom have been through similar circumstances then great, but as earlier stipulated if music is in you it has to get out.
I like to think the songs drift my way through clairaudience and it’s my job to make them sound as close too as they are given.
I’m no solo artist, I have always played/collaborated with other artists/musicians, namely the aforementioned violinist & producer Sharon Sullivan.
The songs are penned and arranged by myself on my acoustic then fully dressed by the band/musicians collaborators/wizards.
Jay Williams formerly of the highly acclaimed Broken Family Band has contributed hugely to the sound over the years using a variety of instrumentation’s. He remains a silent partner of the band in the recording process.
Keltrix is myself on the pen, vocals and acoustic guitar, original Bassist Nick Townsend, Dave Morris on drums and we have recently welcomed Rich Scurrah on lead guitar formally of Cambridge legends Nutmeg.
We plan to get back out on the road this year, aiming for quality over quantity whilst working on our seventh studio album.
The ever evolving Keltrix formed in 2006 and has since morphed into many variations, full band to live electro (DJ & instruments) and back to band roots again. The sound has been described as alternative noir and bohemian indie.
Genre wise we mostly lean towards alternative rock with folk undertones
It’s been an eventful long winding bumpy road that I shall continue on until I don’t.
Keltrix has taught me to be serious about not being serious and to never compare art, amongst many other life lessons.. including the inescapable fact that the life of a singer songwriter is one of solitude.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m from the north west of England (Liverpool/Lancashire) so no local, but as Keltrix are based in Cambridge I would suggest punting on the river Camb, check out the local scene at the Portland Arms and The Junction.
If museums float your gravy boat then add the Fitzwilliam to your list. For a decent curry head down Mill road. Lastly if you like ancient sites and places of interest a visit to Wandlebury is a must.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Sharon Sullivan.
She was our former longstanding violinist & producer who we sadly lost to cancer September 2024.
We recently released a new single titled Sharon as a tribute on her birthday 22nd December 2025.
