We had the good fortune of connecting with Kenneth Lowe and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kenneth, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I am an Atlanta native and “Grady Baby” through and through. Atlanta has been my only place of residence and unless God leads me elsewhere, it will be my final resting place as well. Being raised in the South and the “Bible Belt” region of the country has been very influential to my upbringing. That influence began with my mother who faithfully attended church and consistently participated in many auxiliaries and ministries; most of which was singing. In all actuality, my mother was my initial music trainer who taught me everything she knew about singing Gospel music and the importance of its’ impact.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been singing and ministering gospel music since I was a teenager. During my career, I learned to play keys by ear, and I’ve learned many facets of gospel music including traditional, contemporary, hymnal, and quartet. I would have to say that most people would say that I’m known for ministering hymns which are near and dear to my heart.

Like anyone, I have had many struggles/challenges mostly of which stem from the loss of my mother many years ago. However, I find solace in knowing that she is with the Lord, and I carry her spirit with me every moment. I have also struggled with being a people pleaser. While I can’t say that I have overcome it, I have definitely gotten better at being overwhelmed with it. Having strong faith and belief in God helps me to sustain it all and I understand that collaboration and establishing good rapport is critical in maintaining strength and balance.

It is my overall mission/goal to continue to be a vessel of God whereby I am uplifting people through song.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One whole week! That’s a long time for me, but here’s my best crack at it.
SUNDAY
– We are headed to church service (I won’t name a church because I’m in at least 3 services on an average Sunday), grabbing a donut/coffee along the way.
– We will have early dinner at RC’s Kitchen for an amazing soul food meal.
– after that hearty meal, I’m certain that my guest would want to head back to their hotel for a nap and call it a day.
MONDAY
-I would take my guest to breakfast at Gutbusters Breakfast restaurant.
– After breakfast we would visit the King Center to walk off some of those calories
– Maybe then I would take my guest for a scenic ride through Downtown, Midtown, and Buckhead ending up at Lenox Mall to do a little shopping.
-I would take my guest back to their hotel for the night. Dinner will be the leftovers from the sizeable meal from RC’s Kitchen.
TUESDAY
– We are going to have a Waffle House breakfast; yep, I love Waffle House, and the coffee is excellent!
– We will head downtown for a day of sightseeing, visiting The African American History Musem and The World of Coca Cola and Olympic Park.
– We would head over to Six Feet Under for a good dinner.
WEDNESDAY
-Mid week I am going to let my guest rest and do absolutely nothing for the day. However, I would order take out from Doc Chey’s Noodle House and have it delivered to them.
THURSDAY
– We are going to have a hearty breakfast at Cracker Barrell
– Then we will proceed to shop at K&G and D&K, two of my favorite shops and staples of Atlanta.
– Dinner will be something simple like Piccadilly Cafeteria.
FRIDAY
-We are going to have an early lunch at Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen and indulge to our hearts desire. Note: you cannot visit Pappadeaux without ordering a “Swamp Thing” IYKYK.
– Most likely in Atlanta there will be a gospel concert or musical of some sort on Friday evening, so we would attend one or maybe two. Who knows I just might be one of the program guests.
SATURDAY
– Breakfast at Cracker Barrell again and headed to the airport to drop off my guest…..until next time!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost, I give all praise and honor to God for without whom I would not be capable of doing anything at all. I thank him for my gifts/talents.

Of course I would say my mother; the late Catherine Brown Lowe who instilled in me the groundwork of gospel music. I also credit the late Mother Mattie Bruce who became my mentor as I progressed and navigated through this gospel music journey. Lastly, I credit the late Donald Vails with whom I shared a close bond and with whom encouraged me and increased my confidence in continuing to minister gospel music. There have been many other influencers throughout my journey, but I would have to say that these are most near and dear.
