We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelli Washington Head and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelli, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I always outweigh my good with the bad. Everything worth it is going to have some kind of trials, but when you keep going it’s so rewarding. Giving up is the easiest thing to do, we all need a little challenge some times.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art has changed. I started off wanting to do event planning and i still do , but now I’ve turned it up a notch. I’ve became a balloon specialist which means i do all type of balloons. Now it’s a million balloon specialist in the Atlanta area but the thing that makes me different is the experience that all my clients get. I get know them so i can make their event as perfect as i can. I want them to feel great about spending their hard earned money with me. Anybody can take your money and give you some balloons, but KJ is going to make you feel amazing and your event is going to be the bomb. I’m most proud of my dedication and persistence, which is how i know i absolutely love what i do. I’m a very big procrastinator but when it comes to events and balloons it’s almost like a 2nd nature. If someone book me today i literally start on their event the same day, I’m devoted to my people and my work shows that. I started off doing parties for $50 just to practice and get my name out there because i needed the exposure. I want put a price on how much I’ make but i will say the amount of money i made in a month working on a job i can make that on 1 event and I’m so thankful for that. It wasn’t easy but i just stay downed and kept going, practiced, posted content, and got better and I’m now. KEEP GOING! I know it’s so much easier said than done but it’s rewarding. It feels so good to keep a smile on my clients face especially those returning clients i just absolutely love them. Starting and having a business is a marathon not a sprint, your going to have days when you want to give up and fold but don’t keep your mind clear and stay focus on the bigger picture. KJsEventplanning is in its 2nd year so it’s still rather fresh and i have so much more to learn but look out people I’m going to be a global event planner. I’ve manifest this since the very beginning and i believe in it because i believe in me✨
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly I’ve been hitting the city since i was 16 so I’m so out of touch now with the city life or social scene. I’m more of a food and drinks kind of girl. I would go to breakfast at Barney’s for breakfast eat good have a few mimosas. Then go shopping i love to shop. Hit a few malls and a couple department stores i love a good shop at Tjmaxx. In between time we can go to Mama’s and get some to go margaritas they are amazing. We can head to Atlantic station shop some more check out the new scenery maybe go bowling or something fun. At this point me and friends need a nap lol. Go home chill get back up get dressed all cute and go hit the city. I’m a lounge girl i really don’t like clubs. Maybe we can hit rose bar, or oak Atlanta if we feeling fancy. Atlanta is the place to be so it’s sooo much you can do!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to dedicate this shout out to Kodi Jazelle. I had my business before she was born but now that she’s here, I’m doing this for her!!My daughter is my legacy and so is KJsEventplanning. Both so near and dear to my heart, my first babies.
