We had the good fortune of connecting with Kela Ward and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kela, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
I feel that my habits of not giving up, staying determined, always wanting to advance in my career and business, and believing in myself helped me succeed. I am a person that loves a challenge.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is writing. What sets me apart from others is that I prefer to write about my life and inspire others at the same time. I am most excited about my book “Never Give Up During the Storm” getting published on Amazon. I am still not where I want to be professionally in my writing, but I pray that that will come when God is ready for my light to shine with my writing. It was not easy, but I overcame the challenge by continuing to write. Writing is like therapy to me.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my best friend to eat at Old Lady Gang in Camp Creek Marketplace. Johnny’s Famous Chicken and Waffle, in College Park, also has some great tasting food. We would visit all of the local attractions, including the Georgia Aquarium and the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. I would also find any local festivals or events that is occurring that week. I love to shop so we would definitely go and hang out at Atlantic Station.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my mom, Lucille Watkins. She passed away in May 2020, but she was one of my biggest fans and supporters. Anytime I felt that it was getting too hard to handle and I wanted to give up, my mom encouraged me and told me that I could do it. My son, Eric, has been a big inspiration to me. He has accomplished so much in his 26 years of life. That inspires me to be the best version of me that I can be. I also would like to shoutout my sister, LaShunda. She always tells me that I can do anything I set my mind to.
