We had the good fortune of connecting with Keisa Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Keisa, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
In my early 20’s, I felt in my spirit that I was destined to be an entrepreneur and open up my own hair salon. When I had my first daughter at 14 there were people who were not supportive of me being an entrepreneur and their feedback around having my own salon was not encouraging. Those people would ask, “Is that what you want to do with your life…hair? Well, you better keep your 9 to 5.”
It was in those moments that I doubted being an entrepreneur because the support I desired was not there by some key individuals in my life during that time. I felt like I wasn’t good enough and that I needed to work a traditional full-time job.
I was married by 21 and a mother of 3 by 27. Being a wife and a mother, my plate was full. I was working a full-time job, I was a cosmetologist part-time, a full-time dance and cheer mom, a mentor to at-risk juvenile kids, coaching a multi-level marketing team, and oh let’s not forget being a wife. I was often called “Superwoman” by all of my friends and asked how I do it all? My reply was, “ I just don’t take the time to think about it, I just get it done.”
I knew my purpose was to help others, the “who” and the “how” was what I was searching for. I was involved in many things all in the pursuit of finding my purpose. Remember, I already knew it was helping others but the “how” and the “who” was what I was trying to figure out. I remember one night in 2014, I cried out to God asking what was it that I was supposed to be doing? I remember that night like it was yesterday. I was feeling stagnant, unfulfilled, lacking motivation, and felt like I was constantly on a hamster wheel. I realized that I was doing so much for others and just wanted to know what Keisa was really supposed to be doing outside of being a mother and a wife. I laid in bed that night believing that God would answer my prayer. That morning, God revealed to me life coaching. I was so excited to hear from Him yet puzzled at the same time because I hadn’t heard of “life coaching.” I found out through Google it was a real thing (LOL) and that was the beginning of my journey.
Life coaching was something that I had been doing as early as eight years old. I was reminded of the countless encounters that I already had of me coaching over the years prior to being certified. I found myself coaching my friends on work-life-balance and self-care and came up with the IAM Movement. The IAM Movement was for wives, mothers, and soon-to-be wives. This movement empowered women to realize that outside of their current role as mothers, wives, sisters, and friends, that it was ok to nurture their dreams and goals and the movement helped with goal-setting and achieving those goals. What I realized was that there were too many women I encountered who had forgotten about themselves and prioritized others before nurturing their true identity, vision, purpose, dreams, and goals. I was one of them. This led me to explore Beautiful Living™.
What should our readers know about your business?
First, I would like to tell you what Beautiful Living™ is. Beautiful Living™ is whole-life wellness. It is when you have a clear vision and live and operate in your purpose. It’s feeling confident, consistently executing, and believing in yourself. It’s living a more fulfilled life.
I have the pleasure of helping women of faith who are stagnant, depressed, lacking motivation, directionless, and who find themselves constantly on a hamster wheel. The 7 Pillars of Beautiful Living™ is designed for ladies to discover their identity, fine-tune their vision, and unlock their purpose for a more fulfilling life. These are achieved through coaching, speaking, seminars, media, and publications. In my coaching program, “Beautiful Living Roadmap,” we focus on Vision + Purpose & The Seven Pillars of Beautiful Living™ which consist of; Mental Beauty, Spiritual Beauty, Physical Beauty, Relational Beauty, Financial Beauty, Professional Beauty, and Outward Beauty. Seven is the number of completion (Biblical speaking) and I believe that the pillars + vision + purpose is the recipe for whole-life wellness.
We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about.
I was called to women of faith to help them to live a more fulfilled life. My purpose is to help others to identify, live and operate in their purpose. My experience of being a mom at age 14, a wife at age 21 for 19.5 years, and experiencing divorce sets me apart from others. The wisdom that I’ve gained over the years and how to persevere through every trial and tribulation is the catalyst that drives me to help women of faith to live a more fulfilling life. I accomplish this through vision planning, goal-setting, and implementing the Seven Pillars for whole-life wellness. Through this process, my ladies recognize and embrace the idea that their past does not define them nor their destiny.
Beautiful Living™ looks differently for everyone. I am proud of the transformations that have taken place with the clients I’ve worked with and I’m excited to continue to do this work to help other women live a more fulfilling life.
How did you get to where you are today business-wise? Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
The road has not been easy. Being a mom and a wife is an amazing experience but comes with a lot of responsibilities and sometimes as women, we lose focus on our dreams and goals and what God has called us to do beyond those roles. There were many days where balancing it all was challenging but I never gave up. I learned how to ask for “me time” so that I could focus on my purpose by communicating my needs.
Perseverance and determination is what has gotten me to where I am today. When you realize the calling on your life, and you answer it, there will always be something that tries to stop you from moving forward. Whether it’s thoughts that you’re not good enough, people who are discouraging or even fear but once you set your mind on “who” (God) has called you to do whatever it is, then you can move forward despite the negative thoughts, the fear, and the discouragement. You have to have a mindset of abundance and as Koryn Hawthorne says in “Unstoppable,” “might take a lot but we ain’t gon ever stop, cause I’m unstoppable.”
All in all, I learned that giving up is not an option and that my past doesn’t define me or my destiny. I’ve learned to ask for help or hire help for the things that I need. Remaining consistent and following through with execution is key to reaching my goals and living in the truth God has called me to do.
What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I am a Certified Vision and Purpose Coach, life strategist, author, speaker, image consultant, licensed master hairstylist, mother of 3, and Ms. Georgia Black America 2019. I have a heart for helping people and I am passionate about the calling on my life. I went from being a teen mom, to married at 21 and divorced at 40. I struggled with feeling unfulfilled, stagnant, depressed, insecure about my future, lacking purpose, financial struggles, lacking motivation, negative thoughts, and even felt like I was constantly on a hamster wheel. Through every trial and tribulation, I created a new vision and persevered. As a Certified Vision and Purpose Coach and Life Strategist, I created a 4 step process to break free of negative thinking, feelings of depression, being stagnant and unfulfilled, and start living the life that I envisioned for myself which brought me joy, fulfillment, and happiness.
My passion is to help women of faith who are moms, wives, and divorcees to overcome whatever obstacles they have encountered in their lives, discover their identity, fine-tune their vision, and unlock their purpose for a more fulfilling life.
I want the world to know that life is about perseverance and determination and that you are created for something far greater than your past and current circumstances.
Beautiful Living awaits you on the other side™ of where you currently are today.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My best friends and friends are mostly laid back so I couldn’t fill the itinerary with a lot of things to do because they would likely give me the side-eye for doing the most. LOL! I love new experiences and would definitely use this opportunity to explore new things that I haven’t done before with them as much as possible.
Here are some of the things that we would do…they would come in on a Thursday afternoon and I would get them from the airport and we will go back home to allow them to freshen up and get ready for dinner. We would have an enchilada bar which would consist of vegan and pescatarian options for my friends who don’t eat meat and we can’t forget about the peach, mango, and traditional margaritas that will quench our thirst as we have a lot of girl’s talk to catch up on what everyone has been doing. Friday, we would go to Sudos Bar and Grill to dance. I absolutely love to dance and wouldn’t miss this opportunity to shake a leg to anything from Lose Control (Missy Elliott), Fall (Davido), Candy (Cameo) to Boo’d Up (Ella Mai), Lights, Camera Action (Mr. Cheeks), Space Age Pimpin (8Ball & MJG), Savage (Megan Thee Stallion) and anything in between. Saturday we would go to Candlefish at Ponce City Market for a candle-making class where we would sip wine, laugh, and explore the beautiful scents and make our own unique candle. Afterward, we would head up to Sky Park on the rooftop and enjoy some night-life and conversation over dinner at 9 Mile Station. Before leaving we would hang out at the amusement park for some mini-golf and skee ball and couldn’t leave without going down the giant slide. Sunday praise and worship and then brunch at The Lawrence and I would likely order the fish and grits…ooh, I can taste that now. Monday, we would have to go and check out the Atlanta Selfie Museum. A girl’s trip would not be complete without some shopping and spa time so Tuesday we would head over to the Georgia Premium Outlet and then to Massage Envy for massages and facials. Wednesday afternoon they would head back home. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
In 2019, I read, “Year of Yes: How to Dance It Out, Stand in the Sun and Be Your Own Person,” by Shonda Rhimes right after finalizing my divorce. This book changed my perspective on what I had just gone through. I had been saying yes to everything else but not saying yes to myself. I hadn’t been showing up 100% for what God called me to do. I now had to create a new vision for my life and reading this book gave me the confidence to walk boldly into my season of YES.
I also want to thank my parents Virginia Rainwater and Alvin Copeland for being there for me as a teen mom. Without their support, my life might have been more difficult to navigate. I want to give a shout-out to my siblings. Being the oldest, I feel a great deal of responsibility to keep moving forward in hopes that my sisters will never stop living and operating in their divine purposes. To all of my friends who encourage me, I want to thank them. Just the simple check-ins and asking, “ What are you working on today? ” Or encouraging me to host some type of event. It means a lot to have them in my cheering section keeping me motivated. Last but certainly not least, I have to thank my three amazing beautiful daughters. They are the reason I won’t give up on anything that I want to accomplish in life.
