We had the good fortune of connecting with Kaseem Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kaseem, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ever since I was a kid, I knew I wanted to be my own boss. As someone who struggled with acne during adolescence, learning about skincare and beauty came naturally to me. Nobody in my family was able to help control my acne, so I had to take matters into my own hands. This led me to try various products and trends that didn’t necessarily help my acne, but they did boost my confidence. Through trial and error, I became obsessed with beauty in general, which eventually sparked my love for lashes! I knew that going to esthetician school would be my next best move. Working in the beauty industry as an Esthetician and Lash Tech allows me to fulfill my dream of being my own boss while helping my clients feel more confident!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud of how much I’ve been able to grow my business. I started in 2018 by selling strip lashes, and after esthetician school, I transitioned into offering services like facials and lash extensions. I went from serving friends and family to being booked out every week. In 2023, I moved from my hometown of Hartford, CT, to Atlanta. This was not an easy transition, as I was unfamiliar with the area and didn’t know anyone. I had to start from the bottom again. When people say you have to take leaps of faith to grow, believe it! My only real challenge was overcoming fear. Once I pushed past that fear and started networking, I realized that I have what it takes to continue succeeding.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
It depends on the type of day we’re looking to have! I don’t go out often because I’m usually working, but when I do, it’s usually to try new restaurants. If we wanted some great Asian or Mexican food, I’d take her to a few places I’ve tried in the Doraville/Norcross area. In the city, you can head to The Beltline or Ponce City Market to find almost any style of food.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a shoutout to my Mom, Dad, and Grandparents. Also to all the staff who worked at the Northwest Boys and Girls Club in Hartford, CT, when I was growing up—Mr. Reggie, Ms. Keisha, Ms. Dionna, and others. Being involved in programs like SMART Girls, Money Matters, and Cheerleading helped mold me into the person I am today!
