We had the good fortune of connecting with Kam Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kam, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was that If I could work 40 hours for someone else then I can work 80 hours a week for myself. After graduating from Cornell University with a Masters of Landscape Architecture, I was hired by a Civil Engineering firm in downtown Atlanta. I was a great assets because I had a Bachelors in Civil Engineering from Clark Atlanta University and a Masters of Landscape Architecture from Cornell University. I was initialed hired to create the company’s landscape architecture department. I came up with systems and created landscape design plans that would be implemented by landscape contractors. After putting 100% into my designs and watching them be implemented, but not moving up in the company, started to discourage me. I started feeling lost, doubtful and depressed. That’s when I decided to go obtain my real estate license. Once, I received my license and closed my first deal then I realized that I can really educate and help people with their real estate goals. I grew up in real estate and knew it was in my blood. One day in April 2015, I decided to quit my corporate job and be a Realtor full time. 2015 was a rough year, but I stayed focused and closed my first big deal in January of 2016. Here I am, almost 7 years later and I have started my own Real Estate Brokerage firm. Kam Williams Realty Group is a unique real estate firm that will expose buying, selling and unique custom modern construction options in the future. Our goal is to educate people on the buying, building and selling process. Through several selling, buying and investing experiences, I feel I have what it takes to assist others with their real estate goals.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Kam Williams Realty Group is a Real Estate Brokerage Firm that would like to be known for being a one stop shop brokerage. Being able to transform your property inside and out by offering renovation services, landscape design services and more. Having relationships with vendors, such as interior designers, stagers and contractors adds value and sets us apart. We are most proud and excited about the growth of the brokerage to offer custom modern builds in the future. We are also licensed in Florida and would love to have a future office in the Miami area some day. Getting to where we are today, wasn’t easy. There were a lot of challenges, failures and disappointment that comes with building a business. The best way that we overcame those challenges, failures and disappointment was to keep going. I have a friend that would tell me, you have one day to cry and feel sorry for yourself. After that day, then it’s back to grinding and being focused on your goals. Take those challenges ,failures and disappointments to use as fuel to grow your business. There are so many lessons that I have learned along the way. The main lesson would be to stay focused on your own business. Do not compare yourself to others and allow yourself to be distracted. In the world of social media, you can easily get caught up in what everyone else is doing, but stay grinding in your own lane at your own pace. We want the world to know about Kam Williams Realty Group is that we are here in Atlanta to educate you on homeownership. If owning property is a goal then we are definitely here to assist with your goal.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was to visit Atlanta, I would pick her up from the airport and take her straight to Houston’s for a pomegranate martini. Of course, we would have to indulge in the spinach dip but that martini is one of the main reasons for the stop. Next, I would love to ride through some of the neighborhoods, such as West Paces Ferry, Roswell, Chastain Park area to give her some motivation. Growing up in California, there weren’t a lot of black people who lived in large homes. As a matter of fact, both of my grandmother’s cleaned them. Therefore, to be able to ride through some of these established neighborhoods and see black people owning property is inspiration. The next couple of days we would go see the attractions downtown by visiting the Civil Rights Museum, the Aquarium and the World of Coke. Taking a stroll through Centennial Park and jumping on the ferris wheel would give a nice view of downtown Atlanta. If a Hawks game is playing then it would be nice to catch a game one day. Night life fun would be to go sit at the bar at Flemings and then maybe go over to CRU lounge to hang out a little bit more. Before she leaves, we have to go shopping at Phipps, Perimeter and maybe Lenox mall. We would also have to have brunch at Cafe Social House, lunch at Poor Calvin’s and dinner at Chops. Atlanta has so many places to eat, drink and visit, but the absolute best would be catching up at my house with food and drinks. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Most people who know me, know that my shoutout goes out to my mother. She passed away in January 2002 and I would not be where I am in life without her encouragement, guidance, prayers and most importantly, her example of what hard work, sacrifice and what being focused can do. She taught me so much about life when I was growing up. I didn’t realize it until I was a grown adult. I’m so much like her in so many ways and I can’t thank her enough for being the absolute best mother, best friend and role model to me and my brother.
