We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Carley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Art is really the only thing I could do I feel like. I love that I get to get up every morning and practice my craft. Even after a long day of being on my feet I look forward to coming home and working on my own pieces.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a mixed media artist creating bright and vivid abstracts mix with hand drawn illustration and screen printing. I work at the icebox as a screen printer during the weekdays. I enjoy getting to learn as much as I can at the shop as well as bring some techniqueS to try with my art. At the begging of the pandemic I used my time off to play with some different ideas, and set up page where you can download some of my drawings to color. Perfect for when you are bored and stuck in the house. I hope to start making free at Friday drops again soon. You can follow me on Instagram @party_shark
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I haven’t been much for going out these days but when I do I have a couple of spots I frequent. 97 EstoriaIn Cabagetown is always a great spot for a beer and atmosphere. Not to mention Ok Yaki is using their kitchen For pop ups while they build their brick and mortar shop. They do Japanese street foot and it is spectacular! Another restaurant I like to get food from is Field day in Old Fourth ward. They are right off the Beltline and have amazing food and cocktails. If I want to go for a slice I like to go to Juniors in Summerhill. They make a great Sicilian slice. If you are looking for other things to do you should go to Hammers. It’s a little beach volleyball bar By the airport.. Nothing better than wings, beer and volleyball. You can also hit up one of the many breweries around town. My go to these days is Arches down in Hapeville. They have great beers and host several art shows.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to give a shoutout to my beautiful wife. She is so supportive of the choices I have made and is one of the most positive and hardest working people I know.
