We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Lightfoot and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jordan, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe the most important factor behind the success of my brand is being my authentic self.
When I started my content creation journey, I had a vision and an idea of the type of content I wanted to create, but I often struggled with confidence in front of the camera and being comfortable sharing my personality on such a large platform. As I began making content, I quickly realized that this mere idea had turned into one of my greatest passions. I felt I could make an impact in someone’s life by promoting healthy natural haircare practices. This journey has allowed me to inspire many women to take pride in their natural hair.
By being my authentic self, I have curated a safe space for my audience to learn how to take quality care of their hair. Once I started receiving positive feedback from my followers, I felt more confident opening up and letting my creativity flow. I’ve been able to grow my platform and community, and I am thankful for the support and continuous opportunities that content creation has provided me.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is social media content focused on promoting healthy natural hair practices. I curate short-form videos on platforms like Instagram and TikTok, showcasing creative ways to style natural hair, healthy haircare practices, quality natural haircare products, and the realities of being an African American woman with natural hair. My genuine passion for this art form sets me apart from other creatives.
My love for creating content on this topic stems from my own struggles with feeling confident in my hair throughout my childhood. When I learned to appreciate my hair, I began to take better care of it and eventually fell in love with its beauty. My content aims to help other women who face similar struggles to overcome them and embrace the beauty of their hair.
I am proud of my growth throughout this journey. I started with a small following and have quickly amassed a significant audience. I am proud of the impact I have had on many women’s lives. Many viewers feel inspired, seen, and heard, and I aim to make my content an inclusive space.
Reflecting on my journey, I can say it has taken hard work to reach this point. Taking a leap of faith and pushing myself outside my comfort zone has opened numerous opportunities in the content creation space. Working with prominent natural hair brands has been amazing. I never imagined I would collaborate with these large companies to promote quality hair care to others.
With that being said, this journey has been challenging but rewarding. During times of adversity, staying consistent and remembering my WHY has been crucial. Staying true to my WHY has kept me grounded when obstacles arose and has allowed me to challenge my creativity. This journey has taught me to bet on myself. If you have an idea, stick with it, and don’t let a lack of confidence or uncertainty stop you from achieving your goals and dreams.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend were visiting Atlanta for a week, I would make sure they experience fun spots across town.
On day 1, I would take them out for breakfast to OK Cafe, known for its delicious southern food and diner-like environment. We’d visit the Georgia Aquarium and go out to dinner at Muss n’ Turners.
On day 2, I would take them to the Flying Biscuit and then head to Piedmont Park. We could go on a leisurely walk or rent bikes. Throughout the afternoon, I would take them by my old stomping grounds as a kid, and then we would finish the evening off with dinner at Marlow’s Tavern.
On day 3, We would go to Ponce City Market for some shopping and rooftop games at Skyline Park, and we would finish the night with dinner at Tulum.
Day 4 would consist of going to the High Museum of Art. exploring the Beltline, cooking an at-home dinner, and watching a movie.
Day 5 would consist of participating in my favorite weekend workout group called Hills4Atl. Then, we would end the day by going to Bowlero, one of my favorite bowling spots around town.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One person in particular who deserves a shoutout is my grandmother, Felicia. She has played an integral part in my overall success. She is one of my biggest supporters and encouragers. She always encourages me to pursue my passions and has supported me from start to finish. She may not always understand my vision but remains constantly involved and prepared to help. Her unconditional love and belief in me have pushed me past my limits. Without her, I wouldn’t be the person I am today!
