Meet Janiya Pendleton | Creative Director & Set Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Janiya Pendleton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janiya, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
The end goal is to have made an impact on this world through my work. I created and started this business because I wanted to give individuals an outlet to express themselves in a way that allows them to have the freedom to decide how they are seen or portrayed. I wanted to give people the freedom to be in charge of their own visions and aspirations in life. I want to be a professional that is able to be equipped with all of the tools necessary to be successful and be able to pass those tools off to other people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a creative director and set designer. I introduced my brand to the world a little over a year ago. I have always had a deep passion for adding my own flavor or vibe to an environment. I took time after I graduated undergrad to really dive back into the hobbies that made me happy or gave me joy. Once I began my journey of working with photographers, videographers, and models, I knew this was the path I was supposed to be on and what I wanted to do as my career. This journey was not easy at all. I ran into many obstacles and felt like giving up multiple times. I had the help and encouragement of my close friends and family around me that gave me that push to keep going. As well as, when times were low or hard I always made it a thing to take some time and remember my why behind starting this brand. I have learned that it is no rush to get where you are trying to go i life whether that is professionally or personally. Your race goes at your own pace, that is where you find the true beauty in your passion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend was visiting the area I am currently in, the first place I would take them to is Fell’s Point. Being the oldest place in the city of Baltimore, it is so much history to be seen as well as many shops and dining areas you can go to. Then I would take them to some of the main attractions like the National Aquarium or The Walter’s Art Museum. These attractions are really the first places I visited once I moved down here and I loved it. It is so many places to find food, drinks, or to just have a great time that I cannot even narrow it down to a few places. Baltimore is a beautiful city to explore and find new things.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to all my visionaries, my clients I have worked with, and my family. Each and one of my visionaries saw something in me as I have seen something in them. They have given me the encouragement, support, dedication, and love that keeps me going and allows me to strive to be the best version of myself. My family has been my backbone and main source of support when it comes to following my dreams and without them, I would not be where I am today.
