We had the good fortune of connecting with Janel Nichole H and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Janel, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I’m from a small town called Rock Hill. Located in South Carolina. Growing up there wasn’t a lot of people around me doing what I currently do today. That is, being a full time entrepreneur.

I grew up around a lot of “go – getters”. Being raised around people with the mindset of “if you want it, go get it!” That impacted me in a major way. It gave me that drive.

Also being in a town where there wasn’t a lot of people doing more than the norm, I wanted to be that change. Show people that anything is possible with God on your side. I wanted to show my little cousins, nieces, nephews and people back home that you don’t have to feel like these things are out of reach. You can do it too! I didn’t let what I grew up around determine where I wanted to go!

I always knew I would be doing “something”. Something other than a 9-5. At one point I wanted to be a motivational speaker because I always wanted to push, encourage and inspire people in some way. It’s funny how God works because he blessed me with the platform to still be able to do that within my business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Diamond Effect by JNichole was founded in 2018. I offer top quality wigs that are made on the sewing machine. These wigs can last 3 + years with proper care. Hands on classes are also offered to those who are interested in learning how to construct wigs on the sewing machine. One on one conference calls are offered for those who want to pick my brain or just need some guidance with their business/brands. Diamond Effect by JNichole is also the home of a top tier heat protectant. The Ultimate Silk and Thermal Shield is a best seller! This product can be used on natural tresses or hair extensions. It’s a UV protectant that not only protects the hair but gives it a nice shine without weighing the hair down. I aim to serve people in every way that I can.

When I first started my business I was working a 9-5. Hardest thing I ever had to do but I did it! I always told myself “This is only temporary.” I knew that where I was at during that time was only for a season. I understood that I had to do what I had to do UNTIL I was able to do what I wanted to do! Of course I had a lot of restless nights, shed many tears and made a lot sacrifices but it got me to where I am today.

The road was not easy. I remember missing out on fun, cutting back on things I loved, not having time for anything really. It was tough but I knew where I was trying to go. I had to buckle down and really focus.

I worked my 9-5 until I was able to go full time with my business. Took a lot of patience, hard work, dedication and PRAYER! Heavy on the prayer. Without God I honestly wouldn’t be where I am today. I never operated off of my own strength, always His.

One of the biggest challenges I faced at the beginning of starting my business was being self motivated. I had to develop discipline along the way. Without discipline, my business would not be standing. I remind people EVERY chance I get on how important self discipline is. It’s so important because there will be times where you are unmotivated and discouraged but you have to be disciplined enough to keep going! No one will show up for your brand the way that you do! No one!

One thing I’ve learned along the way is to have patience. Have patience at all times! Understand that everything will happen when it’s supposed to happen. Understand that what is for you will never miss you! God has it all planned out.

I also have to remind people of where I started. I didn’t have thousands of dollar. I didn’t have a huge following on social media. I didn’t have a ring light and a fancy backdrop for content. I didn’t even have a website at the beginning but what I did have was a vision and passion. I knew that if I could just take the first step….that everything else would fall into place! To anyone out there reading this, stop waiting on the perfect time and just take that first step!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
There’s so much to do when visiting Atlanta! Of course downtown is a hot spot to scope out! Highly recommend visiting the Georgia Aquarium! Looking for good food check out Gladys Kitchen!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to give a HUGE SHOUTOUT to my daughter! She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. She gives me that push I need every single day! I thank God for her!

I also want to thank ALL of my support system. From my family, close friends and strangers I’ve never met!

My brand wouldn’t be where it is today without the support! Thank you all so much!
