We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamie Miles and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jamie, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
My favorite quote and affirmation is by Henry David Thoreau, “Go confidently in the direction of your dreams! Live the life you’ve imagined!” – I love this quote so much I have an arrow tattoo on my forearm to remind me to “keep going forward towards my dreams”. I say this every time I am feeling discouraged, nervous or un-motivated.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve always wanted to be a Realtor for years, I would spend hours looking at homes for sale online, look at floorplans and watch neighborhoods grow and change. I just never had the money to do it because this is a 100% commision job and I have bills! LOL! During my time in Atlanta, I have been fortunate enough to live in Brookhaven, Midtown, Buckhead and now the Tri-Cities (Hapeville, East Point, College Park) area. All of these areas are so special and unique.
I worked in reality TV for a while (10+ years) in talent management. It was great in the beginning but it was not my passion anymore and I knew I needed to do something that would fulfill me, so I started crafting. I’ve always enjoyed being crafty and creative and while I was trying to figure out “what’s next” for me a friend of mine suggested I start a YouTube channel, so I did. I created my YouTube Channel called The Crafty DIY Guy where I showed off some projects I did around the house, holiday crafts and more. It was just for fun and a way to be “on camera” more often. When the pandemic hit, my channel took off, so I went with it. Stumbled along the way, made some mistakes and had some friends who gave me solid advice. Since the company I was working for at the time furloughed me to 50% I had some free time….Next thing I knew I was making enough money to pay my bills and then some, so I quit my toxic reality tv job. Many of the celebs I worked with I’m still in touch with, which is cool. I did a good job and I worked really hard. I honestly should have left years ago.
Having my income from YouTube allowed me to also control my schedule, work for myself and follow my passion for Real Estate. I got my license and the rest is history. I am still The Crafty DIY Guy, still a TV and Film and a Realtor with Kelley Williams Atlanta Midtown. Yes, I am busy and very single however, life is good!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Since I live on the southside of Atlanta I would first want to show off my neighborhood and the diversity. I love the charm of downtown Hapeville and the walkability of various little shops and spots to stop in and get a cold beer at Beer Girl. After that we’d head to the West End of town and visit Monday Night Garage, go for a stroll on the beltline and visit the new food hall. There are so many great parks in Atlanta, I’d have to take them to Piedmont Park to watch the sunset and to grab a bite to eat at one of my favorite places in Atlanta – Apres Diem or anything along the beltline. If there was any time or energy left for the following day, the Jackson Street bridge for an iconic Atlanta skyline picture and then a trip to the Martin Luther King Center. Atlanta is filled with history and culture, it’s becoming a little Manhattan with neighborhoods filled with individual charm.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Throughout my career I have been lucky enough to have mentors and motivators. As a realtor with Keller Williams Atlanta Midtown my colleagues Rory, Katie, Marsha, Jason and Tony have been very helpful. As I grow my business I plan to share as much information and knowledge as I can with others. There are plenty of properties for sale and to buy in Atlanta – more than enough for everyone! As an influencer I have some amazing friends who have substantially larger channels (Megan, Sara Jane, Courtney, Jennifer, Bethany, Whitney) and once again, the sharing of information has been incredible and I’ve established some incredible friendships. As an actor I give huge props to Vince Pisani and Matt Cornwell, they taught me alot and how to be comfortable on camera. My biggest advocate was my first agent, Jana VanDyke who gave me a chance and my current agency Houghton Talent is awesome. I always say let haters be your motivators also – when someone says you can’t, go confidently in that direction and do it.
