We had the good fortune of connecting with James B Kynes Jr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi James B, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The desire to transition into commercial real estate was a long goal of mine. The barriers to entry are challenging and the stats prove it. Upon completion of my brokers license, I had envisioned working with a commercial firm full time or developing a commercial division for a well branded residential company. I enrolled into a program call REAP (Real Estate Associates Program) whose intentional purpose is to expose more qualified minority candidates to commercial real estate industry. The program was a game changer for me. It shined a light on the staggering 2% African American who made their career in the CRE Industry. I saw this as an opportunity to first, create a firm the CRE, with nothing but growth potential. If it is only 2% Minorities in the space, then that means there is market share to gain if we believe and build a firm that meets the needs of the people. Next, I realize the importance of creating a platform that could support others seeking career opportunities. We specialize our services to tenant representation and business brokerage, allowing us to meet the needs of entrepreneurs and business owners where they are in their process.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Rushman Moore Real Estate Group LLC is a commercial real estate firm specializing in tenant representation and brokerage. Our roots are deep in the Entrepreneurial Culture, creating, manifesting and operating brands from inception. As a brokerage, we understand there is opportunity to assist entrepreneurs and business owners create and implement a real estate strategy for their company. If you are a start up or someone seeking a more calculated risk by acquiring an operating business. The capacity to meet business owners where they are in their process is what sets us apart. Your idea isn’t too small or too big for us. We are amoebic enough to add value based on our 20 years of Entrepreneurial experience, where our strengths fill your weaknesses. We are where we are today, an emerging minority owned commercial real estate firm because of Belief. I recall meeting with the young ladies who were business brokers, and the instructions to get licensed, to passing the exams and qualifying to become a Broker and Owner of one of the top emerging firms in the region. The major lesson I have learned on this journey is to enjoy the ride. Nothing has happened exactly how I pictured it would happen, but I’m arriving at a place I thought i would one day be. I may have made some choices that may have expedited the trip, but as I think of that, you never know how that shift of a degree of a decision may have brought different struggles and lessons to still bring you to the same place.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Be that we live in a sports town, we will go to the Battery for some baseball, definitely hit the College Football Hall of Fame, We may visit one of the shoe model establishments, Carribean and BBQ restaurants to dine.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Project REAP is a 10 week program that is intentional in exposing qualified minority candidates to aspects and opportunities in the Commercial Real Estate Industry. Aimed to tackle the lack of diversity by creating an undeniable talent pool of prospects to fulfill employment opportunities. The class is taught by various professionals from brokers, landlords, property managers, corporate real estate, site tours, developers, etc. For me, REAP really help me channel my energy, and focus in a niche that was created just for my skillset and like minded brokers. REAP was a true confident booster. The purpose is not to guarantee you employment, but to give you the insight and knowledge to help your direction in the industry. That is exactly what it did for me. I recieved a portion of confidence that if no one would hire me, I can create a brand to encompass the capacity and vision to become a formidable brand in the CRE Industry.
