We had the good fortune of connecting with Jamariah Kelly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jamariah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The thought process behind starting FBW Brand was that black women needed to be placed on a pedestal. Without explanation, hoops to jump through, favoritism, colorism, any of the ism’s we faced on our journeys to greatness.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m most proud of the work I’m doing when women tell me how I’ve impacted their lives, professionally or personally. I got here by demanding something different than my environment. I really wanted to sculpt the tribe I craved and I wanted to share that. It was not easy! It is not easy but it’s worth it. I overcome challenges by having strong faith in God, I walk by that. I want the world to know how serious I am about seeing black women win. I want my story to inspire while I’m here, and long after I’m gone.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Ponce City Market. The O4W is my favorite pocket on the east side and I love all the art around that area. We would go to Minero for margaritas and quesadillas, then to Laraiya’s boutique for cute trinkets and fresh pressed juices. Right before we ride scooters down the Beltline and have a picnic on the grass. We would get ice cream and plants and people watch. Then that night we would go out to Hypr studios, there’s always a cute event going on with good vibes.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shoutout Kei and The Inn Crowd. This organization has really given me a community of supportive women. I didn’t grow up a girls girl so it’s nice to find that as a grown woman.
