We had the good fortune of connecting with Jada Epps and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jada, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My photography business actually started in the beginning stages of the pandemic. But that’s not where my love for photography came from! Almost every week I would tell my friends to wear a nice outfit on Friday so and I can take pictures at school on my little old iPhone camera. And I would tell them every time I would take their pictures one day I’m going to have a professional camera and do this for a living. I started this business also as a coping mechanism. Because my granddad was suffering from a eternal illness and I needed something to take my mind off of that. And look at me now! I actually was going to start a lip gloss business before my photography business, but things just didn’t seem to work out for that so I shot for the stars and put my time and money into something that I really enjoy.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Growing at my craft was not easy. I would research day and night trying to learn more and prosper in my craft. Sometimes I would question myself and ask questions like “Am I growing too slow?” or “Am I not good enough”?. But I had to sit back and realize that everyone starts at zero when they’re starting a business. I also realized that you have to work hard with what you want to grow, and what you water it will grow. Another lesson I gained along the way is that consistency is everything. If your not consistent with promoting your brand, it will negatively affect your business. What I would like everyone to know about my business is that I worked diligently to get where I am now, and I’m growing more and more each day. Creative ideas are always clicking in my mind, and the biggest goal to achieve is making my clients feel confident and to capture a beautiful moment in time!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The best spot to go to in the city is the City of Decatur! Let’s go, the first thing on the itinerary would be to go to Folk Art in Decatur square. They have breakfast to die for, ranging from French toast to chicken and waffles! The next day, we would go to Worthmore Jewelers, my favorite jewelry store in the world. While we’re there we will check out the new jewelry that’s in stock and maybe my friends might pick up a few things for themselves too. I have a huge sweet tooth, and luckily we’re not too far from the sweetest ice cream shop in Atlanta, Jeni‘s ice cream. My personal favorite flavors of ice cream are salted caramel and the darkest chocolate! The next day we will go to my favorite burger joint, Bad Daddy’s. They have great homestyle burgers and the biggest onion rings you have ever seen. On our last day of the trip I would take them to my treasured spot, Freedom Park. I would pack up a picnic for them as we sit around and enjoy the great environment. Freedom Park also has great lighting for pictures, so I would bring along my camera so we can capture the moment of our beautiful week together.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would be lying if I said there was just one person who contributed to the start of model by Jay. In reality, it was a group of people including family members, friends, and new coming customers. I first want to thank my loving mom for helping so much with transportation, props and always showing genuine support to my business. My dad for being the world’s best promoter ever! Also, my friend Tatum being my assistant for free for a whole year, and doing that out of the kindness heart. I would also like to take my other friend Ryane for always being my creative director. And last but not least I would likemy loving grandad for giving me motivational words in spirit, and taking every step with me through my success journey.
