Meet Isaiah Barbour: Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Isaiah Barbour and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Isaiah, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started my own business with the thought of “generational wealth” in mind. Growing up into a family that is very close but didn’t have much money at all, it motivated me to use my gifts & creativity to start a clothing brand of my own & work hard at it so that my future family wouldn’t have to have monetary worries as much as i did growing up.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As designer i’ve been most proud of the fact that i chose to do what i felt i was lead to do. Having a clothing line isn’t easy, the hard work and dedication that’s needed to keep it afloat is definitely the most challenging part. Our brand is called “LA Chaleur” and the story behind it is that we exist to curate a culture especially considering the fact that we lost some loved ones that helped encourage and motivate us to do what we do. The brand is 2 years old and we have had a number of NBA players, Hollywood stars etc wearing our pieces. Our first collection is called “Brand of Angels” and our mission with to have everything cut and sewn without using a manufacture, swear shops, cheap labor. We accomplished that and have an 100% handmade in the USA collection. That’s big considering the fact that we are a small up start Black owned business.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Favorite spots in DC, great question and i’ll start with restaurants to eat at. I’m a big BBQ kind of guy so Cinder BBQ and 2Fifty are two spots where i will take a few friends that are visiting. Everything on the menu is amazing. For fun definitely, Top Golf. Great place for fun and just to hang out with friends. Anyone who’s new to DC for the first time, will definitely have to spend a day or two checking out constitution ave, where a lot of world known the museums are located.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
God deserves all the glory & my parents, siblings and nieces/nephew. Rest in Peace to my Bishop, My grandfather and my grandmother. Do it for them
