We had the good fortune of connecting with Imani Lewis and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Imani, why did you pursue a creative career?
I’ve always been a creative person, since before I could read or write. I would write music, poetry, books, and even scripts for movies and music videos. The way my passions spoke to me, I knew I wanted to use them to do the same for others. Reaching people and making an impact through my creativity and voice is my ultimate goal.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The road wasn’t easy, but the ups and downs were necessary for me to get where I am today. One of the most challenging times in my career happened after I got pregnant with my second baby. My body was going through a lot which took a toll on my mental health. I had no motivation, no drive, and no energy to do anything. I wasn’t able to write or create the way I wanted which caused a few setbacks and forced me to extend some deadlines I had.
I was finally able to overcome once I gave birth to my son, but that was a hard time in my career. I want the world to know that although it make look easy from the outside, a lot of work goes into establishing and keeping up with a brand.
I’m blessed to be able to be where I’m at and able to do what I love, but it’s definitely hard work.
I’m most proud of my perseverance and my will to follow my passions. With this, I was able to publish two children’s books and numerous romance novels. I’ve gained national bestseller status and also became a multi-award-winning author.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love Asian food, so I have a few good recommendations for that. Yao is a good restaurant and has a beautiful atmosphere, Yummy Japan has good sushi for a good price, Kirin House has good hibachi.
As far as activities to do, I like Sandbox which is a unique VR experience. I also enjoy going to K1 speed from time to time, and enjoyed my time visiting The Painted Duck.
I hope you enjoy these places if you try them!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my mom. She made me who I am today and if she hadn’t fostered a love for reading at an early age, I don’t believe I’d be where I am today.
