We had the good fortune of connecting with Harsha Patel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Harsha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Hi, I’m Harsha Patel of HP Jewelz. I followed my childhood love for fashion and design by giving up a lucrative career in advertising to pursue my passion. Years later after gathering experience under the stalwarts of the fashion and design industry, I started my own venture. I’ve always wanted to be my own boss and the only way to do it is to start and run your own business.
At first, I was designing and supplying clothing under my own fashion label. The jewelry aspect of my business occurred around 2010 when a childhood friend asked for help in starting her own business. It was then that I realized my love for designing bespoke jewelry!
HP Jewelz really took off during 2017 when I was able to attend wedding and bridal shows, festive exhibitions, hold private showings and begin highlighting my jewelry through social media.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the jack of all trades. I design the jewelry, work with artisans in India to create the pieces, I quality control the pieces, advertise and sell my product on various social media platforms, studio shop in Dunwoody, private shows and events. I am constantly moved and inspired by the rich heritage of Indian weaves and surface ornamentation which I reflect in my collections.
While Social Media has really allowed my brand to reach clients all over the world, it can be tough attracting and keeping clients. I am constantly having to keep my Social Media followers engaged on my page with attractive images and videos all while showcasing my products.
To add to this, I have to create and execute new designs across two countries. I am constantly on the phone with my artisans in India to ensure that my vision is being executed, is shipped on time and supplies are plentiful. Because I work with artisans in another country and occur import charges like many other jewelry designers, I have to price my product competitively!
One of the biggest lesson I have learnt is “Just keep going!”
There will be days you have a lot of orders and days where you have none, through it all continue to market your business, stay focused & most important stay consistent and patient.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Atlanta. There are no end of interesting places to visit in Atlanta from arts to sports. Some of the must see items on my list to show off Atlanta would be: Beltline near Ponce City Market and Krog Street Market, enjoying the scenery of Piedmont Park and Atlanta Botanical Garden. For food and drinks at the Ponce City Market, Tabla Restaurant in Midtown, Sublime Doughnuts, Sun Dial Restaurant, Bar and View, La Grotta …. the list can go on and on..

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family, they have been my team and my pillar of strength from day one and have stuck with me through every high and every low in my life. I’ve been working with my sister-in-law Nilam since day one. They have helped build a strong foundation for my business. Lastly my parents and my brother Sameer who dream of me having bigger better ambitions, their selfless love and constant support since I first decided to pursue my own career as a jewelry designer, they will always be my number one fan.
