We had the good fortune of connecting with Gina Boykin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Gina, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I hope the legacy of Live Music Junkiez contains all of the memories that fans and musicians have and continue to create through their shared experiences! The feeling of hearing and enjoying great music is hard to beat!
What should our readers know about your business?
I’m very excited to say that Live Music Junkiez provides the most comprehensive list of concerts & festivals in the metro Atlanta area! Over the past three years, the list has grown from about 25 concerts a week to close to 250! And about half of these are free! I hope this platform removes the myth that experiencing good music costs a fortune.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many interesting and exciting places to go in Atlanta. It’s one of the many reasons I love this city!
If I had friends visiting, one of my favorite “tourist” spots is the National Center for Civil and Human Rights. It’s a wealth of interesting information and history that was in many ways shaped by Atlanta. If the weather is nice, I’d take them on a hike to show them a waterfall or the super cool bamboo forest. The fact that we have a bamboo forest inside our city, still amazes me.
After eating at one of Atlanta’s many amazing restaurants, we would definitely check out a music venue. My first go-to for any day of the week is Northside Tavern, the oldest dive bar in Atlanta. My venue pick for the second night really depends on the day of the week and the style of music my friends like. Whatever genre is their favorite, there’s a place for that in Atlanta (which is pretty darn awesome).
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A shoutout to all of the musicians and music venues that send me kind words and thank you’s in DM’s, on posts, and in person! I also want to thank SaltyMF for partnering with me to allow me to start my podcast career! Lastly, a big thanks to Heather Monahan. Her podcast and books have encouraged me immensely and continue to push me to the next level.
