We had the good fortune of connecting with Gabrielle Morse and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Gabrielle, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I decided to pursue an artistic career because honestly there was nothing else I wanted to do. I feel very passionately about photography and film, and I decided that in order to be happiest with my life, art was going to have to be at the center of it in some way shape, or form. I am still in the early stages of my career, but the experiences I have garnered so far continue to prove that I made the right choice for myself. I have discovered that there are both pros and cons to this career choice. Commodifying a passion can sometimes diminish the joy that you gain from your work. However, such instances can also make personal and professional milestones with art even more rewarding.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?

I am very detail-oriented with my work. I enjoy capturing people in their most vibrant form. As I continue my film education, I have leaned into a more cinematic style for my photography. Most of the challenges I have faced with my art have been me getting in my own way. I tended to second guess my capabilities and authenticity as an artist. This caused me to miss out on certain opportunities. I am working on breaking this habit while still remaining honest with myself. With each new photo taken, I can feel myself getting a little better at my craft.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

I grew up very close to Buford Highway, and it has become one of my favorite areas. It is an easy place to get to, and there are guaranteed to be plenty of restaurants that peak your culinary interests. When people come to visit I always make sure to take them somewhere along the highway, whether it is Pho 24, Sweet Hut, or El Ray De Taco. Piedmont Park is another place I spend a lot of time. I have planned many of my photoshoots in different locations of that park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shout-out to all the friends and family members who would model for me when I was first learning my way around the camera. They would let me try any new idea I had for a shot, no matter how nonsensical it seemed at first or how much sunlight went into their eyes. Their support has given me the confidence to continue my work and putting it out for the world to see.
