We had the good fortune of connecting with Emily Pritchett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Emily, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My entire life, I’ve always enjoyed being creative but as we all know, life happens and sometimes things we have passion for get pushed to the back burner. By 2019, I was struggling after my job lay off and my stress / anxiety was at an all time high. So, this was my pivoting point of wanting to find more happiness in my life while entering my 30s. I then committed to crafting more, stressing less, and seeking out the things that brings me more daily joy one arts & crafts project at a time.

Between my job searching, this is how my small part-time business EGP Crafts was born! To deal with my stress and express my inner creativity, I wanted to shift my focus on: exploring different art techniques, crafting more bright colored projects, and sharing my content on social media.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m an example of that you can do both the creative outlet and have a professional life! Once I started my new job in 2019, I made sure to stick to at least 2 days a week for 1-2 hours of crafting and personally making something with my own hands.

Some lessons I’ve learned along the way were:
— Start small – use whatever time you can spare and focus it just on the first project
— Keep it simple – don’t over think it! I love using my Cricut so I started making vinyl decals then explored other materials
— Always ask, “does it bring me joy?” – I love bright colors so I always make sure to make something that I personally love and then share it online.
— Keep the scales of work / life well balanced – you can’t contribute from an empty cup: Recognize when you’re doing to much and when to take much needed breaks. Also realize that you can only control what you can personally control, and let everything else GO!!!!
— It’s ok to say No – You don’t have to do every creative request sent your way and learn when to walk away from situations that my exploit your talents

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Get breakfast at the Majestic – a city institution and always a great meal
Take stroll on the beltline and pick up some treats from Krog Street Market / visit Piedmont Park for a picnic
Swing by JR Crickets Downtown – share some lemon pepper and regular buffalo wings — grab a bottle of sauce to take home!
Explore Buford Hwy and the Farmer’s Market – Stop by Quickly Bubble Tea to get some chicken nuggets and slushies
Either pick up or dine in at Savage Pizza – Order a PIZZA BUTTAFUCCO (MEAT LOVERS) or THESOUTHERN CUE

I’m a huge foodie so I have a whole list of restaurants on my Google Maps app, but some of my personal favorites are:
Taqueria Del Sol [Memphis Tacos] and margarita
Old Brick Pit Barbeque – Brunswick stew and any of there lunch plate specials
Apres Diem – Turkey Sandwich
Local 3 – Anything on their menu is fantastic
McKendrick’s Steak House – Tomahawk or Filiet Mignon steaks – share the sides there’s plenty!
Goldberg’s Fine foods – LOVE their extra cinnamon bagels and blueberry swear
Fontaine’s Food Oysterhouse – order any of the oysters or a fried shrimp basket

I’m always down to explore and eat in Atlanta or the surrounding neighborhoods

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My closest friends and family [too many to list] helped me so much by liking / sharing my @egpcrafts social media content and starting to sell my items online via Etsy / Square website was also a great starting point for my business too. Also, Taking photos or videos for Instagram or TikTok has also been motivating for holding myself accountable but showcasing behind the scenes of creating.
