We had the good fortune of connecting with Elisha Akram and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Elisha, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
Just do it!
This quote means not to second-guess yourself and to take initiative. You’ll never know how great—or challenging—something can be until you take that first step. It’s a reminder to push past fear and doubt, and not wait for everything to be perfect. Just go for it and give it your all!
What I love about this quote is how empowering it is. It gives you permission to take action in life, to trust yourself, and to move forward, as long as you’re not hurting yourself or others. It’s simple, yet it holds so much power!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always been a creative person, from arts and crafts to drawing, painting, and making videos. When I picked up my DSLR camera, it became another way to express my creativity, but this time, it was different. Photography allowed me to capture meaningful moments while connecting with people. It’s not just about taking pictures—it’s about creating memories that matter.
What sets me apart is that I don’t just show up to snap photos. I use that time to really connect with my clients, whether it’s a one-on-one session, a family, or a large celebration. My goal is to create images that my clients can treasure for years and pass down to future generations. I’m most proud when I see the joy my images bring to people—it’s such a rewarding feeling.
Getting here wasn’t easy, but it’s been worth it. I’ve gotten to where I am by staying true to who I am and building genuine, meaningful relationships. I believe that when you have the right attitude and build the right connections, opportunities come your way that you never imagined.
When I started this journey, I didn’t know where it would lead. There were plenty of challenges, setbacks, and tough times along the way, but I stayed the course. Through every struggle and hard time, one thing has always been constant—we keep showing up. That consistency and determination have gotten me to where I am today.
The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to keep going. Tough times don’t last forever, and every day is a new chance to make things better. Another lesson is to embrace each day as a gift and an opportunity to try something different.
I want people to know that my journey isn’t just about taking pictures. It’s about passion, connection, and helping people see their best selves through my lens. My brand, Kustom Kreations Photography, is all about creating images that make people feel valued and seen—whether it’s a family photo, a branding shoot, or a special event.
At the end of the day, I want my story to inspire others to follow their passion. I found my purpose through my camera, and I hope my work encourages others to embrace their own unique journey
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week, we’d kick things off by grabbing some of my favorite wings from American Deli—their wings are a must-try! After that, we’d play tourists in my own city by doing a guided city tour. It’s always fun to learn more about Atlanta’s history, cool hidden spots, and neighborhoods that often go unnoticed.
For some outdoor fun, we’d definitely visit Piedmont Park to take in the beautiful views of the city skyline. From there, we’d head over to the Jackson Street Bridge—it’s one of the best places to capture stunning photos of the city. Another park we couldn’t miss is Old Fourth Ward Park—it’s a lively spot where you can hang out and then head over to Ponce City Market for shopping and good vibes.
For shopping, we’d definitely hit up Lenox Square and Atlantic Station—you can’t go wrong with a little retail therapy at these spots. And since Atlanta is known for its art, a mural tour would be on our list too. The city is full of vibrant murals that make for some great Instagram-worthy moments.
And of course, brunch is a big deal here, so we’d explore some of Atlanta’s coolest brunch spots—perfect for good food, great vibes, and plenty of picture opportunities.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents—Lee & Juria Akram—deserve the biggest shoutout!
They’ve been my foundation, my biggest supporters, and my constant source of love and encouragement. From instilling strong values to always believing in my dreams, their guidance has shaped who I am today. Their unwavering support has been the backbone of my journey, and I wouldn’t be where I am without them. So, here’s to you, Mom and Dad—thank you for everything!
