We had the good fortune of connecting with Ebony King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ebony, what do you attribute your success to?

I would say staying true to myself and my brand. Having a clear understanding of who I am will allow anyone who visits my website or socials, a peek into my vibe, and personality.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I think the thing that sets me apart is I’m not just a cookie cutter clay artist. My designs come from my head, and the things that surround me. When people see my work, they love all the colors, the personality, and the uniqueness it brings.
I got here thanks to COVID giving me a reason to start something new! I also credit thanks to Chip and Jo with Magnolia in Waco TX for giving me a. platform on their 50 black artisans to watch int he US. That really boosted me as I started out. I wouldn’t say it was easy, but I worked really hard to research and craft my skill until I could be proud of it. I want people to know that I’m not just every other black person with a business. I’m a Black Business that’s out here hustling and doing everything I can to stay relevant. You will always get consistency and accuracy with me.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.

I would take them to Lost Island Water park, then the theme park, and then head to one of the hot spots to eat like George’s Local, or Singlespeed. You could catch a night out weekend on main street, some live music in the park, or get some yummy foods or drinks during My waterloo Days.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?

First and foremost my Lord and Savior. He knew I needed this before I did. I didn’t even wear jewelry very much growing up, so I credit it all to Him. My husband is my biggest support and cheerleader. If I didn’t have him by my side, I wouldn’t have the motivation, the drive, or the excellence that I put into my creations. He’s a visionary and I value his opinion and thoughts. He’s also helped me with every market I’ve been to, helping me sell market, and bring people in.
