We had the good fortune of connecting with Dr. Shekina Farr and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dr. Shekina, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Without a doubt having the mother I have has made all the difference. I attribute my success to being raised by a mother who always spoke life into me, believed in me, and pushed me to take up space and own my voice even when she couldn’t. Judy Farr never let me shrink nor did she allow me to dumb down my gifts. She instead built me up. She was, and has been, my biggest cheerleader from the start.

This has been key to my growth and personal development and it ties directly into my purpose to build confidence in women around the world through Formidable Woman®️.

It is also why I decided to be apart of Farr’s Best where family is our business.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run Formidable Woman®​, the #1 international confidence and women’s empowerment brand. Our mission is to champion confidence in women around the world. To this end, I am the Visionary behind Formidable Woman® University, Formidable Woman® Beauty, Formidable Coaching Institute™, Formidable Mingles®, Formidable Publishing™, Formidable Woman® Network, Formidable Consulting, Formidable Woman® Magazine, Formidable Woman® Beauty Gazette, Formidable Man™ Skincare and Formidable Men Magazine™. I have been featured by Women’s Journal, FOX, CBS, NBC, Huffington Post, Forbes, Black Enterprise and more.

I launched our confidence training and certification accelerator company, Formidable Woman® University, for women who lead!

Confidence plays a vital role in the success of women in leadership positions, as well as those aspiring to lead. Formidable Woman University is really the story of how my own adversity propelled me to create a confidence accelerator company for women in leadership.

Having transitioned from teaching to the corporate realm, I was excited about the new opportunities that awaited me. However, I soon encountered a situation that shook me to my core. I became a victim of sexual harassment in the workplace, an experience that left me feeling powerless and defeated. Even more disheartening was the response from management, as the harasser faced no consequences, while I was unjustly let go for speaking out against the misconduct.

It was during this dark season of my life that a slither of inspiration sparked within me. I realized that my lack of confidence had contributed to my inability to take appropriate action following my removal. I vowed that no other woman should feel the same sense of defeatism or be dissuaded from pursuing leadership roles in male-dominated environments. I recognized the urgent need to provide women with the tools, support, and unwavering confidence necessary to thrive in leadership positions.

Motivated by my own experiences, I established a confidence accelerator company designed specifically for women in leadership. Our mission is to equip women with the skills, mindset, and resilience required to excel in their roles and in life is n general. We offer comprehensive confidence training programs, coaching, and certification courses and tools that empower women to take up space, to overcome obstacles, communicate effectively, and lead with accelerated confidence.

At Formidable Woman® University, we understand the unique challenges faced by women in leadership positions. Our programs focus not only on building confidence but also on addressing the systemic biases that hinder the progress of women in the workplace. By providing organizations with certified coaches and coach trainers, we enable them to create a supportive and inclusive environment that fosters the growth and success of their female leaders.

We are more than just a training company. We are advocates for change, champions of equality, and catalysts for transformation. By sharing my personal story, we connect on a deeper level with decision-makers who seek to foster inclusive leadership cultures within their organizations. Through our training and certification programs, we not only empower women but also enhance organizational performance and attract top talent.

My journey from adversity to empowerment has shaped the vision and purpose of our company confidence certification accelerator company. By sharing my story, we aim to inspire and resonate with company decision-makers who are passionate about creating a more inclusive and diverse workplace. Together, we can empower women in leadership, break down barriers, and create a brighter future where every woman has the confidence and support to achieve her full potential.

I am most proud of my growth, personal development through my journey. I’m a stout believer in being the exact man who attracts what she needs and who she is. So, I don’t ask that things be easier, I get better. This has greatly expanded my capacity and shall continue to do so.

Will you keep going when no one understands your vision? When no one celebrates you? When your bank account isn’t lining up with your goals? When your friendships begin to suffer? When doors close on you? When people begin to mock you? Because, in the beginning, all of this comes at you at once. Hang in there, though, because the tides do change.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Atlanta is full of fun and excitement! Some of my favorite eateries include Tin Lizzy’s on 12th St., Velvet Taco on W. Paces Ferry and Hankook Taqueria on Collier Rd.! I love tacos, tapas and margaritas, so hanging with me, tacos have to be in the mix!

When it comes to fine dining I love Morton’s, Canoe, Stony River and Frankie’s The Steakhouse—You can’t go wrong with these!

We would catch a movie and brunch at IPIC Theaters in Colony Square and, if you’re feeling adventurous, we can go hiking up Stone Mountain since I can make it to the top now. What a view!
