We had the good fortune of connecting with Dolphin Coley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dolphin, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Relocating from Philly to Atlanta. It wasn’t an easy decision but I needed to be an a market where the demand for my product was much higher ..
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As you guys already know I manufacture my own Italian ice but us Philadelphians Call is Water ice which is one of the treats that Philly is known for . What sets me aside from any competition in the Atlanta market is that I make my own product and the flavors that we create are not only delicious but endless .. Flavors like peach margarita, Blue Hawaii, Rainbow , Bob Marlee , strawberry banana colada just to name a few but the list goes on and on .. challenges will always come when you’re an entrepreneur and one of mine was capital and location … I was so excited about moving to Atlanta from up north that I didn’t do enough research on where my shop needed to be and I rushed into a situation that was all wrong for me .. lesson learned was never abandon the business Golden rule which is “ location location location “ .. we had some major rough patches but through the adversity you gotta stay on course and trust the process .. in life you never lose , you either win or you learn ! My message to the work would be never chase the money , chase the dream and stay true to your passion and the pay outs will come !
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friends where visiting Atlanta I would take them to the ponce city market In the city for some great food .. Atlanta Comedy theater for some laughs , The Georgia Juke joint for some live jazz and piedmont or centennial park for some fresh air and site seeing .. Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a special thanks to 2 of my mentors , Bob Romarino the owner of sentry Equipment in Nj and George Datson who’s also a business owner that also been in the frozen dessert industry for over 30 years . My son Dahmir who’s been my right hand man and been and huge asset by handling all of our events and festivals .. My wife Alisha who’s always been supportive and encouraging throughout challenging times and my daughter Amaia who handles all of our labeling and business branding and last but not least my public relations manager Cedric Rivers who does a great job on market research…
