We had the good fortune of connecting with DL Jones Images and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi DL Jones, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I kindof backed into being a photographer. Back in 2012, I went to a UFC fight in Atlanta (Jon Jones vs Rashaad Evans) and took a lot of photos with my phone. When I got home, I was underwhelmed with the photos and decided to buy a pro camera, wanted to make sure if I was ever in that situation again, I would have the right camera for the job. little did I know that there was a lot more to using a pro camera than using a phone, so I began to learn how to use it. it wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I decided to pursue Photography seriously, before then I just did random stuff when it came to photography.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
One thing that helps me with photography is my long life time experience in the Information Technology world. I currently work for a media company as a Microsoft engineer, but I have held all kinds of IT related positions such at system administrator, IT Director and the like. I feel that the skills I have in the IT field helps with Photography, the software, researching and learning to solve problems etc. it all are things that are relative and helps me to figure out things and learn things a little faster than I think I would if I didn’t already have the basic familiarity of certain tech related task.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am for the most part a self taught photographer, I have taken some classes, workshops and courses but the bulk of my knowledge came from. that being said, a lot of information I learned was from people I watched online. Many Ortiz, Brandon Cole Photography, Photomeike to name a few. Id also like to give a shoutout to a few models that have helped me along the way, allowing me to practice, and execute things Ive learned. Nicole Burton, and Jada Coulton. Id also like to give another shoutout to my Photography Sister, an Atlanta Photagrapher, Nisha from Eleven pics photography
