Meet Dino Jones | Author

We had the good fortune of connecting with Dino Jones and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Dino, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
I’m an author and I want to continue writing stories that move people. I suppose my ultimate goal is to become a traditionally published author where my work will have a wider reach compared to what I have currently being self published. I certainly want to reach a wide audience and I know my stories are more than capable of doing so.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I suppose the thing I’ve released which I’m proudest of is my newest novel, ‘Some Things Last…’. I worked on that novel for two and a half years and it’s a story that touches upon some very personal feelings of mine…almost painfully personal at times.
Things haven’t been easy. As a self-published author, the biggest hurdle I’ve encountered is getting the word out about my work. My family has helped spread the word which has helped my novels grow a small audience. I’m praying that more people will discover my work and enjoy it as I release more material.
Soon, I’ll be releasing my next project, a short collection titled: ‘Ghosts of Our Past.’ Work on it began in earnest last summer, I hope that it will be as well received as my other works.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’d like to take them out to eat at my favorite Chinese restaurant called Peking Garden in my hometown of Sylacauga, Alabama. I’ve been visiting Peking since my high school days in 2004. I have many memories there and the food and staff are fantastic. They also serve some reasonably priced cocktails…my favorite being the Long Island Iced Tea…
I’d like to show them around some of my favorite places in Birmingham, Alabama as well which is about a half-hour from where I live.
The Birmingham Botanical Gardens has miles worth of walking trails, tons of flowers to see, and scenic areas like the Japanese gardens.
Another place I’d visit would be the Riverchase Galleria. I always enjoy bombing around the mall.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A few key individuals and groups have inspired my writing. I want to dedicate this particular shoutout to Tony Banks, Mike Rutherford, Phil Collins, and GENESIS as a whole. Their music has greatly inspired my work so far and I feel it will continue to do so. I want to also dedicate this to Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally of BEACH HOUSE. Within my second novel, ‘Some Things Last…’ their music inspired many scenes throughout the novel as well as other facets of that work.
