We had the good fortune of connecting with DeShanna Hampton and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi DeShanna, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think the most important factor is perseverance and always willing to push the envelope. My style of photography is edgy and fun. I provide an experience with every photo shoot.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
In my business, I provide an experience not just a regular photo shoot. I like to keep it fun and light, making my clients feel as comfortable as possible. If anyone tells you that owning a business is easy, they are lying. It’s hard work, but well worth the struggle. I wouldn’t trade this life for anything in the world. I’ve learned that I am definitely blessed to be able to show the world my creativity through my camera lens. The biggest lesson that I’ve learned is to be a great business owner, you have to be a consumer, put yourself in a consumers place, treat them the way that you want to be treated. I want the world to know that there is absolutely nothing like Face Photography, we are more than photos.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take them to Bizarre Coffee Bar because they serve more than just coffee, it’s a vibe there, to Bar Sebastian for rooftop brunch because the food and drinks are excellent! I’d take them on a tour of the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute because what’s better than a little Birmingham history?! You gotta check out Urban Smoke for all the good food, and cap it off with a Birmingham Barons game, cause whether you like baseball or not the energy there is amazing
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this to my mom and my children. They support me in everything I do.
