Meet Derrick Finklea | Fashion stylist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Derrick Finklea and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Derrick, can you share the most important lesson you’ve learned over the course of your career?
The most important lesson my business/ career has thought me would have to be fully believing in myself to accomplish things I’ve never have before it’s a faith walk with owning a business and sometimes doubt seems like an answer but fully believing in myself and the gift God has given me has literally been one of the greatest lessons I’ve learned to push past my own limitations and insecurities to get amazing results.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Fashion stylist is just a branch on the creative tree but I’m truly a creative I think outside of the box when it comes to how I live my life, I’ve never been ashamed to be myself because it came so naturally to the point that it made people uncomfortable with my being which ultimately shifted my perspective and how I saw myself! After years of self discovery I found out that one of my greatest gifts is my ability to be me which shines in my styling work. I’ve been in the fashion industry for 10 years now, times have definitely changed from one extreme to the next but it really keep me on my toes and kept me creative! I want the world to know that the sky isn’t even the limit for dlamontstylingco

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Honestly I’m not the biggest fan of the city, too much traffic for me, but there’s so many black owned restaurants that’s not as close to the city but delivers great service one of my favorite spots is trends urban cafe! The vibes are immaculate and the food is amazing!!they have a vegan menu as well which is a plus for healthy eating. I’m a get dressed up and go out type guy I’m even if it’s walking around the mall or just vibing out I enjoy simplicity good food and good conversation!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would truly like to thank God! There’s a lot of different Gods but I would like to thank Jesus who i claim as my lord and savior for walking with me every step of the way! He’s literally my branding coach, consultant and everything in between! I’m so grateful for the life he’s given me to inspire and uplift others! I would also like to thank my family! They have literally been riding with me and this journey.. through thick and thin thru have held me down and loved me! I can’t be more grateful for them!
