We had the good fortune of connecting with Deontrinese Irvin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deontrinese, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I’ve been artsy my whole life so making it my job just made sense. I started drawing and then changed it to working with fibers and I haven’t looked back since.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Crafting/cosplaying and making content for my social media accounts is normally what keeps me on my toes!

As far as cosplaying goes, I’ve always wanted to cosplay but I had no idea how to sew, but I knew how to knit and was learning to crochet so I made it work! I’ve always wanted to have my own business and make things that would make others feel and look cute! So I started making items and would give them to friends or others around me. I eventually started selling my work and been loving it ever since.

It was not easy and even still to this day things get hard but its honestly all worth it to see/hear the amazing feedback from my amazing customers!

I’m honestly still learning so much about getting over humps when it comes to owning a business and trying to make things work.

I’ve learned to take my time and plan things out properly and take breaks when needed. You can’t create if you’re too tired or burned out to do anything.

I’m a genderfluid black business owner that makes kawaii goods and cosplays! Getting to where I am now has been a struggle but it hasn’t been enough for me to give up! I plan on doing a lot more things for not only myself but my business to make it better!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My besties are definitely chill so anything outside in nature is always ideal so we’d probably go on a nature walk or to the botanical gardens. It honestly depends on when they come to because if its during a convention we’d probably go to Momocon in downtown Atlanta in May or AWA (Anime weekend atlanta) for the Halloween weekend.

I recently went to this really cute selfie museum called gurlmobbmuseum and fell in love with how adorable everything is and the amazing staff!

The Roof at Ponce City Market is also a really cool place to be! With all the restaurants, bars, shopping and the fun rooftop game section, you surely won’t be bored!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shout out my amazing and talented friends! Kitsu owner of geeknboujique (on ig and tiktok) He makes luxury glamour robes for all sizes and lengths!

Next is Tati or bluenoelle (on ig) She’s an amazingly talented artist that loves drawing fantasy and out of this world dog hybrids!

Last but not least my friend Rou! yourpalrou.cos and rougibsonphotograpy (on ig) They do amazing work with their camera and has taken most of the professional photos for my cosplays! They also do special events such as weddings,picnics, and birthdays.
