We had the good fortune of connecting with Crystal Ezell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Crystal, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
The most important lesson that Ivy Candles has taught me, is that even though it is not even close to being easy, it is most definitely worth it. My company has brought me tears of joy, tears of frustration, tears of ‘Oh my God, what was I thinking’, tears of gratitude, and tears of awe. This experience has taught me to push through and past the hard days, the tough times, the slow months, the low income; because better days always come. They may come slowly and far between initially, but they always come. To hear people talk positively about my candles, to have people reach out to me to do reviews because they love my product, to have repeat customers and new customers brings such a smile to my face and a warmth to my heart. It all lets me know that it’s worth it, no matter what, it’s absolutely worth it.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Ivy Candles, LLC came into existence in late 2018. We are a family-run business based out of Atlanta, GA. All of our candles are made from 100% premium, all natural soy wax, scented with high quality fragrances, which leads to deeply scented, slower burning, and longer lasting candles. We are very proud of the quality of candles. However, getting to that point was not easy. It look time, a lot of time, to get the correct steps and procedures in place. As with every thing, trail and error is where it all starts. Trust me, it was definitely more error than success initially. But with time and patience, things got better, and continue to get better daily. We are always adding new scents, making new collections, reaching out to new partners, and growing. In business and in life, nothing happens overnight. Everything takes time and patience; and having patience is hard. The saying “You have to go through to get through” is the absolute TRUTH. I’ve learned to stick with it especially when it gets hard; push through it even when you feel like giving in and giving up; and, finish it even when you are dead tired from dealing with it. In the end, IT IS WORTH IT!!! The happiness and joy and success that has come from this incredible business, is more than anything I could have ever imagined.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in one of the greatest cities in the world, Atlanta, GA!! If you are looking for good shopping, great food, exciting people, and a city that almost never sleeps, Atlanta is it. Where do I take my friends: Atlantic Station in downtown ATL – it has national chain and boutique shops, signature restaurants; Ponce City Market off Ponce de Leon Ave – located in a former Sears catalogue facility, it also has national and local shops, restaurants, residential units and is close to the Atlanta Belt Line; Chastain Park – outdoor amphitheater that hosts some of the best concerts in town during the spring, summer, and fall; the Fox Theater – gives us the opportunity to get all dolled up to see a fantastic show in one of the most beautiful theaters in town.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are so many people who have been and are a part of my story. They include my parents – who have supported all of my crazy ideas; my brothers – who not only help with the making and marketing of my candles, but are also there to bounce ideas off of; my former marketing person, Kera Dupree – who has always worked hard for the success of Ivy Candles; my friends, Sorors (the lovely ladies of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc); and, of course, my customers.
