We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Everett and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christopher, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting Speller Street Films was that I was tired of complaining that Hollywood wasn’t making the type of content (films, tv, media) that I wanted to see so I decided to make the type of content that I wanted to make and that an audience would want to see. I knew at first it would be tough and a struggle, but I also knew that this was my calling and passion. Once I got my first film under my belt and out to the world, the rest was history and the support came from everywhere.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m a film director and film producer. I own a film production company, Speller Street Films. We’ve produced several award-winning films (shorts, narratives, and documentaries). I’m most proud of the impact that our films have made over the years. It’s been a long hard road to get to where I am today. Hard work and sacrifice helped me overcome the obstacles and challenges that I’ve faced over the years in this industry. I want the world to know that Speller Street Films is one of the independent film world’s best kept secrets.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Downtown is my favorite spot. Many things to do such as art galleries, restaurants, or just relaxing at the park. The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I want to give a huge shoutout to Tariq Nasheed, Pete Chatmon, David West, and Hilarie Burton Morgan. These four individuals have helped my career so much and I’ve learned so much from them over the years.
