Meet Christina Waters | STEM Advocate/Career Consultant

We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Waters and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I am from Savannah, GA. I grew up in a large family on both my dad and mom sides. I had a wonderful, colorful, and fun childhood. I was raised by my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles. My upbringing had and has a major impact on who I am today. I was taught about integrity, family, morals, values, hard-work (both 9-5 & entrepreneurship) and most importantly about humanity and treating others with dignity and respect. I strive everyday to make my family proud, continue our legacy, and set a good example for the ones who come after me.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The name of my business is MyTris Consulting LLC. I help STEM students and professionals start, grow, and thrive in their STEM career. I am known for my down to earth, caring personality, mixed with an analytical mindset and tenacious drive to see others around me succeed. I have a unique perspective because I am a black woman in STEM who has been through many of the obstacles my peers and counterparts will experience in the STEM industry, particularly women and minorities. I am most proud of helping STEM students navigate through the STEM industry and find a career that speaks to their passion and skill set. I’m also extremely proud of the students who I’ve mentored over the years who have come back to me as clients. One of my most recent accomplishments that I worked on for over a year is the publication of my STEM children’s book-Tristan’s Laboratory of ABC’s. The book is truly a family affair as it was inspired by my son Tristan, my mother in love’s amazing art talent, and my love for science. The book is apart of the legacy I want to leave behind for my kids and future generations. The work I do with MyTris Consulting LLC truly sets my soul on fire.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
That’s a good question. Some of my favorite spots to visit (pre-covid) are Apache Cafe, Desta, the King District (Auburn Ave), and any park in Gwinnett county. The parks in Gwinnett are amazing. I appreciate them alot more after becoming a mom. Some new spots that I have come to love are Breakfast at Barney’s and The Atlanta Breakfast Club.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out my mom for being an inspiration and support in my life. My mom was and is an amazing mom. Selfless in her acts for her kids and her entire family. I strive to be an amazing mom and person like her.
