We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Howard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Casey, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I always felt a strong pull to do whatever makes me happy and specifically, to have that thing make money for me. I always knew when I was at my 9 – 5 corporate job that that was not the path for me. Instead, I wanted to steer my own ship, make my own schedule, love what I did, get away from the corporate grind and most importantly, create more time to be with my kids. I began photographing families as a side gig and after my first child was born I knew I needed to make my dream of working for myself a reality, so, that’s what I did!
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Casey McMinn Photography is Atlanta’s most sought after maternity and newborn photographer, providing a high-end, luxury experience for busy moms and dads who value their time.
We are a maternity, newborn and milestone photography studio in the Atlanta area, specializing in a luxury portrait experience from start to finish, complete with professional hair and makeup, access to our inventory of studio gowns and wardrobe for family, and professionally designed artwork for your home.
I am personally so proud to be able to provide each family I work with unforgettable memories with the upmost amazing experience. Knowing the artwork I created for them will live on the walls of their home for years to come and become a treasured family heirloom is a wonderful feeling. These pieces of artwork will be passed down from generation to generation. I love being able to help my clients document their story.
I got to where I am today with hard work, determination and perseverance. It was not always easy, but through the years I learned best practices and how to streamline my process.
Casey McMinn Photography was recently awarded Atlanta’s best newborn portrait photography studio, which is one of my proudest achievements.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend was visiting for a week there are so many places we would go! Downtown Marietta and downtown Woodstock are fun, cute little eat and play areas with good food, shopping, drinks and live music. We would for sure go to both of those places. A trip about an hour north to Ellijay would be fun as well. There’s some wonderful wineries in that area!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I owe so many shout outs to all the amazing podcasts I listened to and information filled books I read that helped me take the leap to work for myself. I also owe a big one to my mentors. Thank you, Josie and Kristina! Most importantly, I owe it all to my husband, Eric, who supported my dream whole heartedly, 100%. He never doubted me for a second!
