We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Connerly and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casey, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I originally never intended to make a business out of my hobby. I decided to pursue the business route to cater to highschool and college students who could not afford hair and makeup maintenance. When I first started, I did not know much about starting a business so I was really just playing it by ear and taking notes from other business owners.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always been an artistic person. I loved to do arts and crafts and paint as a kid and always wondered how that would translate in the future, especially since I was never really interested in makeup. A face is now my canvas. My work is very versatile from editorials to glam to natural. What sets me apart from others is that style versatility and being able to give the client exactly what they want. My makeup style brings out a natural glow and that definitely sets me apart from others. I also believe customer service is what defined your business. I try my best to cater to every client to build a relationship. My loyal clients and I are basically besties and I cant wait to take them to the top with me. It took me a long time to get to where I am now and I am still not where I want to be. It was definitely not easy juggling school and work while maintaining a business. Sometimes, I still do struggle and I am not afraid to admit that. I have learned to set my own individuality. Social media makes it hard to define yourself and stand out because so many people are fighting their way to the topright along with you. Therefore, finding your niche and your target audience will be what will take you where you want to go. I am proud of myself for finding my passion and sticking with it for so many years after the hardships I have gone through. I want the world to know that my brand is a reflection of me. As a college student, I cater to those who cannot afford super expensive upkeep, by giving them luxury within their budget.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my best friend from out of town were to come and visit we would go eat, relax, get some drinks, and party! My favorite places to go for food are Crack’d, Outpost45, and Company Burger. For drinks and a party, I like The Library, Parlays, Apres, and Hot Tin. On the other hand, I also like to relax and enjoy the scenery of New Orleans so we would walk through the Sculpture Garden or take a swim at The Virgin Hotel.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shoutout goes to my friends and family! My parents have given me such useful advice and always offered help in ways I didn’t expect. I greatly appreciate my friends who have let me practice and improve my skills on them. It means a lot that they have stood by me since day one.
