We had the good fortune of connecting with Carlton L. Curry II and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carlton L., we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Risk taking: how do you think about risk, what role has taking risks played in your life/career? I’m a risk taker. My entire life/career is centered around risk. I’m an full time real estate investor & developer. I took the risk of purchasing properties; buying and flipping and also starting new construction projects that has made me the man I am today. When one ask me what I think of risk, I always reply that I think of the word faith. They go hand and hand. Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. When I entered into a faith/risk business it was a paradigm shift for my life. I could not lean to my own understanding and I had to acknowledge God in ALL thy ways, not just saying it but actually living it. The significance of greatness is always being different. One can not expect to succeed in this lifetime operating in a spirit of fear. The Bible says in 2 Timothy 1:7 (KJV): For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. I understood that. F.E.A.R. – false evidence appearing real. It all starts with ones mindset. What you dwell on is who you become. I never dwelled in fear. You also have to know that elevation isn’t everyones goal. Growth is scary to those who are stagnant. Your journey will be misunderstood by those that’s not meant to join you. In closing, I want to remind you the reader that in Isaiah 55:11 (KJV) God said, My word shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. This for me means, If he called you to it then he will see you through it. A wise man once told me bigger the risk bigger the reward. No risk no reward. I’ll leave you with this; Faith + Focus = Fulfillment. Once you add the both together God then can do exceedingly & abundantly over your life.

What should our readers know about your business?
I’m a man of many businesses. I believe in multiple streams of income. I’m an investor, developer, and financial curator. What I’m most proud of is taking the leap of faith and believing in myself. I got to where I am today by seeking opportunity and not passion. It was definitely not a easy road, one thing about life is it’s the climbing of the mountain that teaches you the value of the mountain top. Once I understood that I was able to overcome different challenges. Some valued lessons I learned a long the way were that when God has an assignment over your life you can’t hang with everybody. I want the world to know my direction came from my rejection. If I would have never gotten a rejection, God wouldn’t have gave me clear direction. It was the doors he shut that allowed me to see the doors he opened.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
if one is visiting Atlanta and I was the host I would take them to some of my favorite restaurants here in the city. I.e. Sweet Georgia’s Juke Joint, Roc South Cuisine, and Sweet Auburn just to name a few. We would visit some of my developments in the city and we would ride bikes on the Beltline. This is 30+.. lol
