We had the good fortune of connecting with Callie Mann and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Callie, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Prior to pursuing esthetics, I was working as an Executive Assistant and felt there was little room for growth in that career path. I decided to go to esthetics school because beauty had always been a passion of mine, and I trusted my intuition that learning a skill would propel me into a new world with a multitude of opportunities. I found that learning a creative skill with my hands turned out to be much more rewarding than sitting at a desk was. It has come with its own unique challenges, and I find it to be a much more exciting and fulfilling way to live and work. Working with my hands to change clients’ skin has been such a rewarding journey and it keeps me excited to show up and continue to evolve at work daily.
What should our readers know about your business?
Skin by Callie stands out because I take a personalized approach to skincare and curate my client’s skincare routines and treatment plans based on not just their skin goals, but also their lifestyles and habits. I am nothing if not thorough with each and every client. I like to create an environment of clarity for clients since the skincare world can be so confusing, especially for those that are new to it. Acne is my primary focus, and each acne client is so unique and truly requires a thoughtful and curated approach. Continuing my education and staying up-to-date on the latest trends can be a bit of a challenge on top of running a hands-on business, but I am always making time for it so that I can give my clients the best experience possible.
I think one of the most important things I’ve learned along the way of being a business owner is that the best thing you can do is show up for yourself first so you can show up for others. This is certainly true when I am educating clients on best lifestyle practices and habits to build to obtain and maintain healthy skin, so I really do need to practice what I preach. Staying on top of my own health and optimism and trusting the process, just as I tell clients to do, has been the key for my success in business so far. The most important thing I’d want the world to know about my brand is just how much I value each client and that I am always striving to be my best self so I can encourage the same in them.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think a fun wellness day in Atlanta would be to start with a pilates class at The Studio in Emory Village, which has the best ambiance and instructors around. Next of course you’d come in for a facial and skincare advice with me at Skin by Callie in Toco Hills, and grab a coffee on your way out at Spiller Park. Of course you can’t go wrong with a walk on the Beltline, though as an aesthetican I’m required to remind you to wear and reapply your sunscreen! There’s too many good restaurants and bars to choose from off the Beltline, but I love the falafel salad at Rina, or Buena Vida for tapas and drinks.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
One of the unique things about the esthetic industry is that the culture is so supportive and giving. The industry is all about making others feel comfortable and confident in their own skin, and the providers all extend that supportive nature to each other. It is truly a wonderful thing to be a part of and get to witness daily. I would not be where I am today without the support and freely given knowledge from all the estheticians I encountered, both in work and the internet. Whether it’s spreading encouragement or technical knowledge and practices, I want to thank all the estheticians, injectors, laser techs and more I’ve ever worked with and even those who have shared their knowledge on social media and podcasts. I really believe this industry and its people are one of a kind!
