We had the good fortune of connecting with Bryant Defon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bryant, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Music and Art has always been a part of who I am and being that my parents were Artist, I grew up around music, other artist, recording studios and seeing them perform. I have always been a dancer and been in choir growing up. After my parents passed away, I decided to start making my own music by writing my own songs, going to Recording Studios and doing live performances. In addition to being an Artist and Performer, I still choreograph for other local artist as I love doing behind the scenes work and helping other artist bring their visions to life.
The other thing I do is I am also a Dance Fitness and Cycle Instructor. I currently teach classes at LA Fitness and Life Time. I was once obese and thru Dance and proper dieting I lost over 130lbs. I am always aiming to inspire and motivate others as I believe people will always remember how you made them feel long after you are gone. So I started teaching Group Fitness to help people with their fitness goals and make a bigger impact in people’s lives.
Through my Art whether it is Music, Dance, or Fitness I aim to motivate and inspire and what better way than to make a business out of that and reach a mass amount of people at a time.
By the way check out my music on Spotify and any Digital/Streaming Platform!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is a combination of things; Recording Artist, Choreographer, Fitness Instructor. There are many things that I believe sets me a part from others. When it comes to my music, I aim to be original and take chances on different sounds and aesthetics. I want my listeners of my music to know it is ME when they hear a song. In my music I also write from personal experience and experiences of others as I want everyone to feel a connection. I make music that moves you, that is catchy, and I am not afraid to push buttons and test limits.
As a Choreographer, what sets me a part is I tend to get a feel for the Artist I am choreographing for and the energy of the dancers. I want to make movement feel natural and cohesive and I want the audience to feel that if they look away they might miss something.
As a Fitness Instructor, what sets me a part is my infectious, larger than life energy and my song choices. I always aim to deliver a great experience and an eclectic mix of movement and music. Also while teaching I am doing every movement right along with everyone so we can feel the Fun, Burn, and Excitement together. As I am a Performer I look at my classes like my Concert and I give my Members and Students and 1Hr Show that they will not forget and make sure they will want to come back.
I got where I am today by Hard Work and believing in myself when others doubt me. Art and Talent is subjective so there will always be people doubting your abilities but you have to have thick skin and be your biggest fan and supporter and 100 percent believe in what you are doing. I have taken the time to learn how to properly put my music out and market it, I am always networking to find gigs and Artist or Groups to choreograph for and on top of that I have managed to be hired by the Top 2 Fitness Companies in the Country and I have Music Projects that have been Streamed over 700k times, and have won awards for my Live Performances. I would not have accomplished what I have so far if I did not just believe in myself and drown out the negativity of others. I have a light and I am shinning bright.
Being an Artist, Creative, and Perfomer is not easy by any means. It is a hustle and you have to have a hustle and a business mind set. One of many challenges I have had to overcome is people trying to scam you and take advantage of you. I watched my parents being taking advantage of and scammed growing up, so that prepared me for the dangers out there when perusing Art.
The Biggest lesson I have learned along the way is to Believe in myself, follow my heart, follow my gut, and drown out negativity and any criticism that is not constructive. I am not aiming to get in my own way and I will not let anyone else get in my way either.
I want the world to know that I am a genuine person and I aim to give back. My Art is my way of giving back to the world and making people feel motivated and inspired. My Brand is all about fun, feeling good, and persevering. No matter how you experience me whether it is a song, a performance, watching a dance I choreographed, or coming to a Fitness class; you will leave feeling inspired and entertained.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I Live in Atlanta GA. and I love the night life. We would definitely be hitting up the bars and clubs and letting our hair down, safely and responsibly of course. We would also go to the movies, eat at some amazing restaurants and vibe out. One restaurant I would have to make sure I take them to is Kingston Grille in Forest Park, GA as It is the best Jamaican Food in the Atlanta Area in my opinion. Also call me cheap, I would also take them to eat at China Panda Chinese restaurant in Decatur and that is the Best Fast food Chinese you can get here. China Panda tastes like Chinese Food did back in 1998, haha. Oh and we would also eat at Hibachi Buffet on Buford Hwy for their unlimited Crab legs and Crawfish for $12 as you can not beat that.
I love to eat when on vacation or when a friend visits, we will just have to have some Big Backs that week.
Also I would take my friend to Six Flags and we would ride all the Roller Coasters and of course EAT!!!! And sometime during the week I would make my friend come to one of my Fitness Classes and maybe even come to the Recording Studio with me!
We would definitely have a great time!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Well I want to shout out all of my friends who genuinely support me in any way. Without great friends, I would not have made it to where I am today. I am so thankful for my true friends and even more thankful that my friends allow me to support them in the way they support me.
