Meet Brittany Smith: Master Stylist & Content Creator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to create and maximize. I wanted to create the life that I wanted to live by transforming the lives of others. I have had the opportunity to service so many woman over the last 8 years and every single experience has been detrimental to my career. One in particular client had the reaction of a lifetime when were finished her service. Her reaction confirmed that this was my purpose and I was made for this. My clients and the network of people I have met while working on various projects changed the way I thought about starting my own business. Before some of the encounters with my clients I was full of doubt, excuses and attempted to steer away from even being a stylist. I realized I was running from a gift, a passion, and a purpose. after accepting that this is my “why” I was able to see that I could not only maximize my life but I would be able to expand my network and eventually expand my net worth,
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am the owner of a Salon Loft by the name of BB Styles Studio, It is my pride and joy because I’ve overcome so many obstacles to make it to this point, I am a natural hair, extension and color focused salon and I pride myself on educating every single client that walks in my door. I have made it my mission to assist in helping my guest meet their goals while making every single guest feel just as beautiful as he/she did before entering the salon. What sets me apart from others is that I focus on reaching a diverse clientele, building relationships with each individual guest and going above and beyond to accommodate them in any way that I can. I try to make every experience better than the last. I was able to get where I am today because I worked hard to build a community of women of who share different stories, live different lives but all want the same thing and that is to be beautiful and accepted which can be very challenging in a world who is ruled by social media and unrealistic expectations. It has not been an easy journey but well worth it. I’ve overcome losing clientele due to relocating and other things to servicing over 600 clients in 7 months. I was able overcome these challenges by sacrifice, planning, rebranding and execution. The biggest lesson I’ve learned throughout this entire journey is that each individual journey is different and never be ashamed to be rerouted because sometimes taking the long way makes you appreciate reaching the destination even the more. What I want the world to know about BB Styles is that my brand is a selfless brand and will forever be focused on acts of service and the needs of others because without their needs I wouldn’t have a story to tell.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A long weekend with my friend would consist of vibes, views and amazing food. My friend and I are both interested in culture and amazing views. I would take her to Martin Luther King Jr. National Historic Park and National Center for Human and Civil Rights on the first day. In between the two locations I would take her to one of the best vegan restaurants I’ve ever had in my life, the Slutty Vegan. The Slutty Vegan is amazing and not to mention its black owned. Between the two of us were not too big on the club scene but one things for sure we will eat. To end the first night I would take her to Apt 4B for a good vibe and some Caribbean food… its so good. Day two we would do brunch at Ms. Icey’s Kitchen Bar, another black owned restaurant. The aesthetic is absolutely beautiful and the vibe is so authentic. Next we would visit the Trap Museum because its only right to be apart of the culture and take some cool selfies while we’re at it. Although were not too big on clubs I would definitely take her Penthouse on Sunday to the close the weekend out. ”
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I can help but recognized my parents a special group of friends and family who have been with me along the way. 8 years later and they never waiver. From the day I called them to tell them I was dropping out of college my senior year to pursue my dreams of being a stylist they have been right by my side. They have been my biggest supporters, my muses and biggest help when I’m in overload. Not only have they been with me from the beginning but they have given me love and walked with me through some of the hardest times my life and I am forever grateful.
