We had the good fortune of connecting with Brandon McCoy and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brandon, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I think working for someone else and being on bi-monthly payroll was getting old. Producing work that needed to be done everyday consistently on that pay was rough. The feeling of being undervalued was a big factor as well. I needed to show doubters that I could eat by my self and still get fed, Ya know? I worked a year and it was just tiring and mood dampening. The jump to self-employment was rough at first, but is well worth it now.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Growing up i was alway interested in creating things, always had an eye. I asked my mom for my first camcorder in the 4th grade, it was a sanyo xacti hd.
I fell in love with it and recorded everything. Between youtube and just using windows media maker, I was mostly self-taught. I started editing video game footage and learned new editing softwares like vegas pro, then on to the adobe suite. (Premiere Pro, After Effects).I graduated from high school in 2015 and I received a football scholarship to Jackson State University which was awesome because it eliminated the cost of school. So i had to focus on football for 3 years and put videography to the side. My last year my doctor deemed me ineligibal due to concussions. This put me in a slight depression, and picking the camera back up and creating really helped me get through that. Ever since then i’ve been rolling. Graduated in 2019! College definetly built my character and i dont regret it at all..

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’d definetly hit Beale Street if I were them. I would stay in the Memphian hotel. And now that the world is slowly opening up I would definetly it the Highland Strip or any where Midtown.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Ofcourse I want to shout out my parents. Cascendra and Tommy McCoy. My sister, My Day 1’s Mike and Renza, all of them for just always being an ear for me.
A couple of my college teammates for being there when I had to give football up.
A lot of people i could name from freshman year of college to now.
In the video world, Its a lot of people im thankful for, from artist that believe in me to other videographers that have helped me.
