We had the good fortune of connecting with Bernadette Birch and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bernadette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I pride myself on having a great sense of southern hospitality and have always possessed a passion for planning events, whether it has been planning a trip abroad, baby showers, birthday parties, and even special events for clubs and organizations. I always dreamed of one day owning my own business and because of my love for all things fabulous, I experienced my Oprah “A-ha” moment, after planning numerous special events for family and friends at no cost. It was then that I realized I had discovered my true passion in event planning! After years of attending and critiquing events, traveling to various new cities and countries, daring to try restaurants and my passion for volunteering in Atlanta’s Community, I believe I am adequately equipped to become the event planning aficionado I was destined to be. Affectionately known as “Busy B”, I have been told that I have a special gift for planning events. I truly understand the importance of experiencing new things so I can capture special moments for my clients. My true passion lies in making lasting memories and maximizing the possibilities of the present. Taking a step of faith to start my own Event Planning business has been one of my greatest accomplishments to date.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
As a 36 year resident in Atlanta, I pride myself in knowing where to go and things to do. I would highly suggest starting off with brunch at Le Bilboquet which is a charming European cafe with a nice outside patio located in the shops of Buckhead. I would then restaurant hop for lunch to a few of my favorite spots Barcelona Bar and Bartaco. They both have great food, drinks and a perfect patio for people watching. From there, I would suggest walking a few doors down to this cute little wine market, VinoTeca to patake in a wine tasting or a nice glass of wine and for dinner I would definitely suggest one of my old time faithfuls, Surin of Thailand, they have amazing authentic thai food and its a neighborhood favorite so you always feel right at home. For a great night vibe I would visit my new favorite The Garden Room at St. Regis which has a beautiful garden bar and a super cute dining experience or circle back around to American Cut in the Shops of Buckhead for great cocktails on the rooftop.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and Foremost, I would like to give a shout out to my mom, my #1 advocate. Ever since I was a little girl, I would always be in awe of parties, events and holiday mornings with my mom. She would go above and beyond to create the absolute best atmosphere that made our family enjoy celebrating every aspect of life. I remember thinking as I grew up, “I hope everyone gets to feel this way. This has been a patient process but my mom always instills in me the anything worth having is worth working for and it feels good that I continue to make strides with my goals and aspirations for my business. Secondly, I would like to shout out my soror and friend, Angela White for providing mentorship and inviting me to her grand opening at JW Event Suite in Stockbridge, GA as a preferred vendor. Because of her event my business has taken off with referrals and my social media platform has garnered positive attention. After facing many roadblocks I decided to kick FEAR in the butt and pushed through to brand myself by getting my website off the ground, became active on social media, obtained my business license and officially blossomed as a thriving business in 2018. Lastly, I would like to shout out my natural hairstylist, Nene Brooks @misspressncurl for inviting me to an intimate networking social “From the Screen to the Scene” at the end of 2018 which was held at Punch Bowl Social. I was surrounded by 15 other strong and positive black women that owned their own business or had aspirations of starting something new. Being amongst those ladies allowed me to share my story and introduce my business. While in attendance, I was also able to make lasting connections and this event further confirmed that I was doing what I was destined to do. Not only has Nene provided constant support and encouragement but she has also entrusted me to be her Event Planner to provide guidance and my creative and innovative input in all of her latest events.
