We had the good fortune of connecting with Bena Klier and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Bena, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business as a fashion creative was to create a place where people could not only shop yet have an experience. Gazing at unapologetically unique fashions while saying to themselves hey I can wear this.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Taking my ADD/ADHD and turning it into fashion that is what sets me apart. I am not technically trained by any institution except the institution of life and living daily. Being a 3x Breast Cancer Survivor and a Survivor of Suicide attempts I have come to where I am now by using my inner gifts of creating and taking past hurts and trauma turning a piece of fabric into that situation and creating a beautiful garment.
Even when I began my SPLATTER COLLECTION. Which consists of abstract drawings on garments based on my inner thoughts feelings and images in my head.
Sorta like a Basquiat metaphor.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First we would head to little five points and find a Kiosk to eat at. Then hit the shops and take selfies along the walk. Then of course a visit to the High Museum.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to shout out JCaesar Bouler. My partner, best friend and love of my life. He keeps me grounded. Also a shout out to my models and talent team. They are the best and put in the work in bringing my creations to life.
