We had the good fortune of connecting with Barbara Bullock and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Barbara, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Entrepreneurship is all about risk, and this business is no different. No risk, no reward. I could never imagine myself working my way up a corporate ladder, so to me, the risk was worth it to get to do what I’m passionate about every day.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Sky Gym offers a unique alternative to traditional fitness. It allows students not only to explore their creative abilities on the ground and in the air, but also encourages them to challenge themselves both physically and mentally through circus arts. Obviously, success was not easy, especially given that we opened our current location at the height of a global pandemic. Through our adaptability and persistence, we were able to not only survive, but grow our community of artists.
I’m most proud of the inclusive, body-positive environment our staff and community have worked hard to establish here. We encourage exploration and growth at all levels amongst our staff and students. We also adhere to the highest safety standards in our industry, teaching not only skill and technique, but artistry and accountability .
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Aside from the obvious, being Sky Gym, an ideal night out with a visitor is an Atlanta United game followed by a Vortex burger in Little Five.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my staff and students because without them, Sky Gym wouldn’t be possible. Also, my husband, for his patience and support.
