We had the good fortune of connecting with Ava Medina and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ava, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I didn’t really come up with it…it kinda chose me. I had hopes to publish a magazine and couldn’t get a mentor or couldn’t even volunteer at a publishing house. I moved back to New York and studied for hours. I read every magazine and met everyone I thought I should me. When it all boiled down to it, I knew that I had to learn layouts, language and packaging…this is why the ‘deck’ is my specialty. Pitching television, film, creating marketing decks, sponsorship decks, designing EPK’s…I’ve learned unique layouts and language to successfully sell with strategic messaging.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been obsessed with media my whole life. Television, film, magazines, music…I taught myself the language, the visuals and how to beautifully package the message. It wasn’t easy, but I was diligent and focused. I was creating pitches for ideas in my head that were really going to no one. I thought it was crazy, but it turns out, it wasn’t for nothing. I was nurturing a skill and I didn’t even know it. The beauty of it all is that God gave me a gift that provides for my family and as a singe mother, it’s the greatest gift of all.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Hmmm…I’ve fallen in love with the strip over at Inman Park/Highlands.It’s filled with great food and great energy..sexy enough for a date night and fun enough for a night with friends. I love West Midtown and of course I love sitting in the outdoor patio of Ladybird on the Beltline…and I also love the old faithful..Date nights at the Midtown Arts Cinema with drinks and dinner at Apres Diem.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Well, if I’m honest, Tiphanie Watson Johnson, an Atlanta based Marketing Executive gave me a shot at her agency. This put me in the position to figure out what I knew vs what I didn’t know and then a chance meeting with Talent Manager/Industry Exec Oronde Garrett was pivotal. Not only did he hire me…he trusted me with concepts and ideas to sell some of the best talent of film/television/sports/music/tech and global brands.
