We had the good fortune of connecting with Austin Haynes and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Austin, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“ I’ve learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.” -Maya Angelou I think one of the reasons we’re called to be hairstylists isn’t necessarily just about hair. We’re listeners, confidants and friends. We genuinely care for each one of our clients, and I love creating an environment where they can relax, have a few good laughs, and let out anything they may be holding onto.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I like to focus on natural and “lived-in” hair, such as balayage. Something classic and beautiful (although I love a fashion color too!). I’m most proud of the beautiful work that my partner Lauren and I do everyday, and the environment we’ve created. We love for our clients to feel at home, like you’re spending time with friends. It took some time to figure out exactly what I wanted out of my career, and I’ve never been happier than I am now. A while ago I made the difficult decision to change venues and try a new adventure, and I’m so glad that I did! If I’ve learned anything I’d say it’s to go ahead and try to reach your goals. I spent a while being unsure of what the future might have in store, and while it wasn’t easy, it was the best decision I’ve ever made!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Atlanta has tons to offer. My friends and I like to walk around Piedmont Park, Midtown Arts Cinema is by far my favorite theater, and the belt line is close by. I recently moved to East Atlanta Village and have had fun at Mary’s and just walking the area in general. Wednesday nights are spent at the Atlanta Eagle with my friends from the neighborhood. Recently Dad’s Garage (an improv theatre) has started to bring back drive in movies, so that’s been fun too!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d have to give a shoutout to my friend and partner in hair, Lauren Reyes. Her kind consideration and care has totally transformed my life and career. I’ve never felt so encouraged and appreciated as I do working daily with my best friend. Lauren was the person who gave me the tour of our school almost 15 years ago, and I’m so glad that I got the chance to meet such a wonderful person.
