We had the good fortune of connecting with Aspen Countryman and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Aspen, we’d love to hear about a book that’s had an impact on you.
A few years ago I read “Infinite Possibilities: The Art of Living Your Dreams” by Mike Dooley. In it, he explains that our thoughts become things. Everything that we think and believe will become our reality, so one of the simplest ways to change your life is to change your thoughts. My mom is a really spiritual person, and she introduced me to the book once I started showing interest. Everything I read felt like truth on a deeper level, like it was something I had always known but had forgotten. I started shifting my mindset and watched as my dreams slowly manifested their way into my life. That book has completely changed me as a person.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a musician for my entire life. I started playing guitar and performing when I was nine years old, and its all I’ve ever known. When I was younger, one of my biggest challenges was figuring out how to release my own music. For a long time, I couldn’t hear the full production in my head. I only played acoustic guitar, and I didn’t know what I wanted my music to sound like or who to contact or who to work with. Recording is expensive, and I had no idea where to start. Now, I’m a senior at UGA. I have met so many talented musicians and producers and creatives in Athens that have completely transformed my life. This past year I recorded a 5 song EP with some of my closest friends, and I finally understand the beauty of collaboration. Before college, I spent my whole music career as a solo artist believing that I could accomplish everything on my own. But the moment I asked for help, the project meant more. I felt more fulfilled. That project comes out April 2021, and I’ve never been more excited for something.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I absolutely love breakfast food, so I’d probably take them on a breakfast tour of the city. We would hit Highlands Bakery, West Egg Cafe, and Java Jive.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to shoutout my mom, Star, for always guiding me in the right direction. I also want to shoutout my producer, Tommy Trautwein, for turning my acoustic songs into total bops.
