We had the good fortune of connecting with Asia Mack and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Asia, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I pursued an artistic/or creative career because creativity has always shined through me since I was born. I have always loved singing, dancing, drawing, and just finding ways to express creatively. So when it came to choosing a career path, following the dreams I always imagined would come true was the only way to go.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My love for anything fashion started when I was at least 4 or 5 year olds. Anyone who ever attended grade school with me can tell you I spent so much of my time in school drawing clothes in my notebook. I always had a knack for putting things together. Most of my life, I attended charter school so because I never got the chance to express myself through clothing due to us wearing uniforms. I only got those chances on dress down days or on the weekends outside of school. I begin to fall in love with makeup my freshmen year of high school. I wouldn’t stop until I became one of the best at it. During my junior and senor year, I switched schools and finally attended a public school. I began to take a fashion drawing elective. It was so exciting to be learning something in depth that I had always been interested in. I also began to be more inspired by my peers as they were so free with what they wore as well as how they expressed themselves. I began thrifting & that opened up an entirely new world for me. Fashion became even more fun. In my senior year, I decided to began creating content for YouTube. I would watch ladies such as Tiarra Monet, Lover4Fashion, and BeautiCrush. It was just something else fun to do at the time. I’ve been doing YouTube for 11 years coming this October. For me, creating content is easy because I don’t look at it as a job. It’s always been fun for me. Editing can be tedious or to get things aesthetically pleasing to your brand can be hard but I say keep pushing yourself no matter what. The dream doesn’t work unless you do. The challenges I’ve overcome stem from being bullied as a child from wearing very thick glasses to blossom into this confident, zealous, determined curvy/plus size woman who doesn’t care bout breaking the rules/barriers when it comes to anything. Thats how I go into any project or goal.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would most definitely have to travel to NYC or DC. I truly love both cities & also lived in NYC for sometime during college. There’s always something to do. In NYC, we could definitely go to SOHO, The Highline, Jacob’s Soul Food Buffet or Amy Ruth’s, and definitely should check out some of the cool local boutiques and shops in Flatbush.

In DC, we should definitely stay at the Yotel Hotel. It is amazing altogether. They have a great restaurant inside the hotel called Art & Soul. We could go to La Vie on the water for dinner. Do some shopping on F Street. We could check out the nightlife on H Street.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my family because they’ve always pushed me to go closer and closer to my dreams. I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my godsister Keairra who is literally my partner in crime. It’s never a time when I can’t count on her to come through for myself & my brand. I would like to dedicate my shoutout to one of my closest friends Sierra. Sierra has been there through the good, the bad, the laughs, and the tears. She has never not one judged me but also been the one to pray for me behind my back no matter who is praying against my downfall. Lastly, I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my niece Ziyani because she’s the reason for me to keep going after my goals and to continue to beat the odds.
