We had the good fortune of connecting with Ashley Witcher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ashley, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
One of the single most important decisions I have made that continues to contribute to my success is the decision to always invest in myself. I am my greatest investment. You can never go wrong or be at a loss when you invest in you. Investing in yourself means that you believe in you, even if no one else does. It says, I value who I am growing into. Investing in you shows that your future is important to you and that you want your life to have meaning.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a publisher and I partner with Christian women in leadership and entrepreneurship to publish their books. My goal is to partner with women to turn them into successful, award winning authors. Although I am still growing in this business, I have made it this far by faith and choosing not to give up. It has not been easy but I have to always be honest with myself about where I am, where I am going and what it will take to get there. Sometimes that means learning a new skill, other times that may mean scratching an idea and starting all over again. It means asking for help or admitting a weakness if necessary. The Write Legacy is an act of faith. It is a part of the legacy I wish to leave in the earth. It was birthed as a result of me asking God, “how can I leave a legacy or inheritance for my children when I don’t come from money?” I heard, “your words are a legacy.” That was where I was supposed to start, the money will come as create my own legacy through words.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m a lover of Black history and supporting Black owned businesses so, we would most definitely stop by the MLK Jr museum and some of the historical restaurants downtown Atlanta like Busy Bees or Mary Macs. We’d find some authentic street tacos as well. A visit to the Aquarium and the Coca Cola museum would be fun as well as a rooftop bar to enjoy the view. Hiking up Kennesaw mountain would be fun if they are into adventure and catching a comedy show downtown is always a good time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family. I dedicate my shoutout to the women who raised me and continue to pour into me now. My mother and grandmothers, who I get my strong work ethic from, my spiritual mother who taught me how to walk in faith, my godmother who always encourages me to be me and I can’t forget my husband and children who give me reason beyond myself and support me along the way.
