We had the good fortune of connecting with Artra Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Artra, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
Going to college and receiving a Master’s degree in Education while continuing to work in my creativity and passion is nothing short of a amazing! The feeling of knowing that I was pursuing both passions at once with the worst case scenario being, my educational career couldve possibly ends  up my back up plan which by the way is still a dream, I was more open to seizing every opportunity when it came to my music career. I continued to show case my talents in rapping and song-writing because I always felt worst case scenario I could fall back on my other abilities if didn’t work but I was definitely going to try. I feel so honored that I had the ambition  to balance both throughout the years, and still today. I always thought of what life would be had I just focused in on just my talents in rapping and song-writing because I always felt worst case scenario, I could fall back on my other abilities if didn’t work but I was definitely going to try. I feel so honored that I had the ambition  to balance both throughout the years and still today. I always thought of what life would be had I just focused in on just one career and give 100%.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?

I am the CEO of Woman Of Substance Entertainment. This is my publishing company through BMI I started back in 2015.I released several of my songs on all digital music  platforms like Apple Music, Spotify, Etc. I also directed my first budgeted video independently called
“Queen Drip” . In the day time I am a counselor to  at risk youth. My work experience is centered around helping youth and young adults going astray and redirecting them on their paths through experience and service plans.I was called to be a mentor and an active listener I’m almost like a voice of reason for the younger generation. Once some find out I do things outside of these facilities they are really shocked and amazed that I even have the time lol. I am also a certified volleyball coach, which this past season I coached at very prestigious high school here locally!  I learned so much through coaching and also being an example of working under pressure and having the spotlight on you at all times .

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Whenever I’m asked about a good time I always am that friend that wants you to step outside your comfort zone . I’m all about self care so we would go for some massages and have a spa day at Jeju Korean Bath house. This is a great experience and so relaxing! Then I would definitely feed them well by going to different restaurants downtown like STK Pappaduex or Sugar Factory! These are some of my favorites!I would also recommend shopping by  going to Phipps or Lenox mall depending on occasion they have lots of variety for any budget. Last but not least we would have to go by a bar and grill called Boogaloo lounge. Here you can indulge in karaoke, brunch , and some of the best finger food out it’s almost a club environment. I’ve always had a great time and experience there!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My village is very large and contributes so much support to my success! There are so many that I can’t thank them all . But as of today I can honestly say I don’t know where I would be without the WRC (Women’s Resource Center of Atlanta) . This group of women and organization against Domestic Violence saw the best in me throughout a tough time I experienced a few years back, which was one of the lowest times of my life. This organization showed me sisterhood.  They actually cared about my well being while actually tending to my needs and nurtured me back to good health physically & mentally.
